Indeed, different hotels have different ways to make us feel more "at home." At the Sheraton next door during the turndown service you get little chocolates like you said, which is also common at the St. Regis and at some Marriotts. Although to be honest my best experiences have been with Le Meriden and with St. Regis. Le Meriden has some fancier treats with hand written notes while the St. Regis even got me tickets to a local concert once in Houston! Too bad I don't get that spoiled anymore though.
