We continue our journey through Russi, my friends! The other day I returned from Kabardino-Balkaria, if you do not know this is a region of Russia located on the very border with Georgia. Your black chef is also an avid snowboarder, and this year we decided to have a rest in the Caucasus and, of course, ski and snowboard.
The flight from Moscow took no more than 2 hours. Another 3 hours by car and the Elbrus mountains open in front of us, this is a large Caucasian ridge. Elbrus itself is the highest peak in Europe (5642 meters above sea level). But let him not be the greatest, he is simply insanely beautiful.
There are many places here, where you can stay with more or less comfort. We did not chase after comfort and stayed in a simple boarding house called Itkol. This is a typical Soviet boarding house, not the most varied cuisine, not the most spacious rooms. But it did not matter to us, all the inconvenience was blocked by a great view from the window directly to the mountains.
However, the food in this boarding house is absolutely wonderful, you will be fed with breakfast and dinner - quite enough for hungry lovers of extreme sports. From the boarding house to the ski lifts you will be taken by a bus, and of course it will bring you back.
Now on Elbrus there are new cable cars that will raise you in warmth and comfort up to an altitude of 3850 meters. They start from an altitude of 2500 meters.
Even if you do not ski, you will have a walk and admire the beauty of the mountain nature. Roaring mountain rivers such as Terskol or Baksan, huge and impressive peaks around, of course Elbrus, Donguzorun or Cheget and many others. However, we had have no time to admire to them, mostly our walks were limited to the night time, and the rest of the time we ski.
A bit for the same snowboard maniacs as me. There are few trails here, but they are rather complicated and interesting, and there are huge fields for freeride. At the same time not many people ride on Mount Elbrus, so you will not be jostled in lines, the new cable car provides a greater transmittance of the sufferers to ride. The skiing area here is the highest in Europe, and the trails are the longest. And for fans of extreme sports, you can climb even higher on the ratrack, here the snowcaps are used not only to level the slope, but also as a taxi (that's such Russian fun).
The weather on the old man Elbrus is very diverse, as always in the mountains. He can meet you with a scorching sun at minus temperatures, at which your nose and ears will burn. It can use fog and cover the whole slope with clouds, and then you will wander like a hedgehog in the fog.

Y para los fanáticos de los deportes extremos, puedes subir aún más en el ratrack, aquí las copas de nieve se usan no solo para nivelar la pendiente, sino también como un taxi (esa es la diversión rusa).
El clima en el viejo Elbrus es muy diverso, como siempre en las montañas. Él puede encontrarte con un sol abrasador a temperaturas negativas, en el que tu nariz y tus orejas arderán. Puede usar niebla y cubrir toda la pendiente con nubes, y luego vagarás como un erizo en la niebla.
