Hunting Spirits on Chinese Ghost Day breaks my heart💔

IMG_20170906_201322.jpg

Yesterday was Chinese Ghost day. Legends say on this day the gates of hell will be opened and evil spirits may emerge, haunting down the lost souls of homeless people unable to find a shelter for the night.

This day occurs in perfect correlation with the proclaimed Chinese Ghost month which in combination with China's recent banning of ICO's lead to the rise of the Red Sea wich's ride you hopefully enjoyed.IMG_20170906_241017463.jpg

"Thanks for taking a ride with 'The Red Sea Rises'. We hope you enjoyed your stay. Exits are to the left. Don't leave your trash behind."

Anyhow my interest in occurences not easily being understoond by the human mind led me on a late night hunt for supernatural masses of energy - ghosts!

My starting point for the search for spirits started at a place well known to be a home for spirits.

A proper beer bar equipped with various kinds of beer, wine and harder booze which consumed in high amounts will probably boom you into the spirit world.

Yet drinking it in the glass provided broke my little german heart a bit.

Having not found the spirit I was originally looking for and also having eaten all the delicious brokolli dunked in garlic-chilli sauce it was time to change locations.

To a place known for its abundance of spirits.

Despite the well performed vocal calling I just felt one kind of spirit that evening.

Failing in the finding of spirits in spirits’ home I couldn’t allow myself to fail in another matter.

So I climbed the table in the search for pennies (thanks James ( @kralizec ) for the caption!)

And finished my last set of push ups for today’s part of the 30-day Push-Up Challenge.

Always remember: never end the day with a failure, do something earning yourself a good bowl of sweet dreams.

I slept like a baby that night. My roomie, the light left on and me lying on the foot-end side of the bed with the bedroom door widely open can confirm.

Thanks for stopping by you awesome lad! Check out @rootingrobert for more China Changde stories!

lol.... the fact you tried to look for spirits at all the wrong places just made my day.
But honestly, wouldn't like to see the gates of hell though. Not a nice place to see if you have seen the "taoism hell roadmap".

Guess I have mistaken something on that day...

Is the Taoism hell short map a movie and what is it about? Sounds interesting. Would you please elaborate?

Actually it is not a movie, but a roadmap to hell (where you see all different judgement is taken place). You usually only see this on a Taoist funeral service. It was widely practiced in Malaysia, I am not certain is it still displayed because it shows different sin has different judgement.
Thieves have their hands chopped, liars their tongues cut off, and some the soul is deep fried in a wok for something I cannot remember, etc.
And the worst sin goes straight to the 18th level of Hell (no return).
Taoist Chinese culture believes when one dies, he / she is taken by the Guards with the head of ox and horse most of the time they are "chained", but they also get a chance for re-incarnation (start again in life on earth) if their sins were not overly severe and their lives are judged once again.
You can just google "Taoist or Buddhists map of hell" you can see a few.
Here is an close example I could find in stockphoto, but not very clear

(This one tells about Buddhism believes)

I live in Mexico, we have something like this, but it's about all spirits, good an bad, to resemble the one who already went away of this world, they give the orders him to say masses to the church, it's in november 2, the same that you said, the gates of paradise will be opened, maybe some of them get frightened, but it is not to forget who lived with us, thank you for sharing.
TEST with @originalworks

Uhh That sounds interesting. I think I've seen a documentation about the mexican one once. Do people also prepare a parade to honour the dead?

Although some frown upon and proclaim such events as spooky and unholy I really like that way of bringing back our attentions to souls passed on and the value of life itself

Hi, no parade, just make "ofrendas" it's like to offer food to the spirits that I go on to better life the celebration is to go to the cemeteries, but no parade. A few years ago a sect is the one who offers things to the death, but it does not have anything that to see with all Saints' Day or the day of dead men, "Dia de todos los santos", "Dia de los muertos" they are different things, we remember those who died, just that, I hope my explanation was clear, regards.

Ghost day like Halloween?

Not quite. My coworker said it's not like Halloween. It's more about honouring one's deceased ancestors.

It looks like they have quite a selection of alcohol goodies there to choose from. It's like a candy store for grown ups

Haha indeed. Haven't thought about it this way. It's a lil booze infused wonderland!
