You quoted, "In the beginning was the Word" but did not quote the rest of that phrase. It is, as you probably know, a verse in the Bible, John 1:1. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Christians believe the Bible is the Word of God and that, as our Creator, He knows what is best for us. He gave us the ability to speak, and directs us to speak and to think wisely. In Philippians 4:8 we are admonished, "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything is worthy of praise, think on these things." Similarly, in Ephesians 4:29 God tells us, "Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear." These are just two of many examples where God lets us know the importance of uplifting speech and wholesome thought. I find it quite interesting that you basically have come to the same understanding, but from a viewpoint of "magic" and "spells". Yet it has been right there in the Bible for hundreds of years.
