DIY Coinbank for my Little One

Somebody told me before that once your kid knows how to count, that's the time you introduce them to saving money. Well, I gave my kid coin banks when she was one year old. I was just trying to develop her fine motor skills and I tought teaching her to insert coins in a coin bank slot would be hitting two birds with one stone.

Just recently, she has filled her two coin banks so she is in dire need for a new one. It's a good thing we have a stock of old milk boxes, I decided I'd make her own DIY coin bank. It's quite simple to make. It all took me just one box to create a cylinder coin bank. I just needed to make sure that it can take on the weight of the coins once they become really heavy. I kept reiterating to her that the money she'll save will be used for her Christmas wish.

I've already finished the coin bank and she's quite delighted with the outcome, it seems like she's excited to save a lot more money. I'm just glad that it seems that she has made the habit of going straight to her bank to deposit the coins immediately after she is given money.

At least saving money as a habit can be checked out on my motherhood goals. Although I'm sure it still needs to be constantly followed through. The next one, I guess, would be budgeting. I guess I'll have to teach her some addition and subtraction before we get to that topic. I trained her not to throw tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants especially when we are at the toy store. It's a big help actually since we can stick to our budget whenever it's toy shopping day. We are able to follow the one toy only rule.
