I started out in the Navy in Damage Control forward deployed out of Sasebo, Japan. Shore Duty as a FTS at a Reserve Center, and then back to Sea duty as an Aircrewman. I can definitely tell you that out of the 3 side of the Navy that I have seen, Aviation has the most Perks... For both Maintenance and Aircrew. However, all of them have there positives and negatives, like anything else. I can tell you that I do miss hitting ports with my old ship! That was always a great time!

Forward deployed and an engineer? That's some serious misery right there.

I was on the McCain in Yokosuka (ten years ago). The recent collision killed half of my former division, although I didn't know any of the men there now.

Yeah, it was a tough 4 years. I remember complaining a lot when I was onboard. But now looking back, I honestly can't remember any of the day to day BS, I just remember the good stuff.

Aircrew is always in the limelight, good group of guys, a lot of ground support goes into Orion flights as well.

Yes, there is a ton of work to keep those birds in the air. Especially true with P3s. lol Its a combined effort with both maintenance and aircrew.
