Check out places like Camera House for pre-loved cameras. Most of my stuff is second hand and does the job, not that I've done much in the way of landscapes.
Maybe find a middle ground with your wife? Give her a peace offering of some sort.
Will definitely look for second hand gear. Might even look at some grey imports. :)
