THESE OPTICAL ILLUSION BELOW REVEAL HIDDEN WORKING OF YOUR BRAIN

By the definition from Wikipedia: "An optical illusion is an illusion caused by the visual system and characterized by visually perceived images that differ from objective reality. " In this article, I will share with you very interesting optical illusions that reveal the hidden working of our brain.

"Awaken people's curiosity. It is enough to open mind, do not overload them. Put there just a spark."
-Anatole France

#1. Mask of love

Author - Gianni A. Sarcone

This mask can be seen either as a single face or two people kissing each other. In this example, the brain is confused which picture to perceive. This happens because contours in the picture give two different images, therefore our brain is perceiving it in two different ways. In this illusion, neither image tends to dominate, so an image is flipping freely. Flipping is a mechanism of our brain to deal with ambiguity. With flipping, there are better chances of providing correct information about the environment.

#2. Checkered shadow

Author - Edward Adelson

While you look at this picture, your brain is sure that these two squares A and B are different colors. But as you can see on the picture below, they are exactly the same color. What brain is doing here is making shortcuts so he can perceive reality faster than watching every single square individually and then making conclusions. This way, brain saves some time, but sometimes, these shortcuts can lead to percieving things falsly.

#3. Coffer illusion

In the Coffer illusion you can see a series of rectangular doors panels, but after a while, your brain will "flip" that image - you will see 16 circles. There is no wrong perception because contours are distributed to make the picture ambiguous. In this illusion rectangulars dominates, probably for the reason that rectangles are much more common shapes in our environment than circles, so our brain "favors" them.

#4. The illusion of Sex

Author - Richard Russel

In this illusion, we see the same face that appears to be female's when the tone is lighter and male's when the tone is darker. This illusion works because changes of tone influence the contrast of pictures. Based on contrast, our brain will decide weather that face is male or female. Of course, there is many more other cues for our brain to determine a sex, but when other usual cues are lacking, contrast can be deciding factor.

Number 2 blew my mind, the color contrast is weirdly fascinating!

Thank you, some new insights how we work and how we decide based on illusions our brain produces. One thing where i read books was about emotional decision we always make. Many people believe we think about the pros and cons and then we make a rational decision as result. But that's not true. I like the picture of a balance with positives and negatives which Brian Tracy drawed in his training The Psychology of Selling. If someone negotiates with us or just talk to us we evaluate each statement in a fraction of a second and put more weight on one of the two sides. In the end we have that gut feeling if something is good or bad for us. Nothing rational at all, just a feeling.

Let me also thank you for taking your time to read my article and then writing this long and meaningful comment.

I like your way of thinking. It's all about feeling that we got, nothing rational. It's true. I once read Jordan Belfort's (original Wolf of Wall Street) guide to selling called Straight Line Persuasion and say almost the same thing there.

Hey thanks for the source i'll look into that!

You won't regret. He knows what he's talking about there.
