Side-of-the-Road Orgy*
Let me start this by saying you guys know me. I’m not one of those prissy feminists who start bawling whenever a guy yells something on the street . I’ve seen a lot of women complaining, even calling it harassment. Anyway, I don’t think it is, but that’s not the point here.
So, you know I’m not like that. But I do have one curiosity, for the guys really. What’s up with the honking?

See, right next to where I live, there’s a strip of road that leads to a supermarket. And it’s quite close, so I usually walk it. And let me tell you, I’ve never gotten as many honks as I have on that paltry strip of road. And the weird thing is, it happens even when I’m not looking all that great. I mean, at times, like yesterday, I get it – tight jeans, leather jacket, blonde girl… makes sense, I suppose. But then, I’ve gotten honks while wearing baggy jeans, no make-up, unwashed hair, loose band shirts etc. And I no longer understand that.
And anyway, my question is – what do these men expect? Really, what do they think will happen if they honk their horn after a hot woman? Because they always turn their heads to see if the girl reacts somehow, if she looks at them or something. I mean hell, yesterday it happened with a guy driving that sort of machine used on building sites to scoop up dirt. And he was like fully turned in his seat to see if I reacted. Dude, I really think you should keep your eye on the road when you’re driving a thing like that.
When you’re driving anything, really.
I want to know how many loves, even how many hurried sexual encounters resulted from a guy honking after a girl? One, maximum. I’m pretty sure. What’s the idea – that the girl will recognize what an attractive male you are and decide she must have you then and there, on the side of the road? Come on.
How many crazy orgies resulted from a honk?
Do they expect the woman will take her top off in reply? Again, how many times has that happened? I’m guessing maybe it happened to one guy – or more likely, he made it up to sound cool – and it somehow then made the rounds and now, all the boys know about it and are trying anything to get the same.
I just don’t get it. It’s very stupid, very infantile behavior.
I don't want comments about feminism and about how crap men are. It's really not a subject that interests me, definitely not this male-persecuting kind that's so popular these days. So please, just don't. Instead, I would like to hear ideas about why you think this honking happens - what's the logic there?

I don't get it either but I think it's just an expression of exuberance. Like "hooray, did you see that? What a wonderful world!"
When we had a sailboat, my buddy and I were grabbing a mooring on Martha's Vineyard when these girls on another boat whooped at us and flashed their breasts. It was weird because their parents were just below in the cabin. Only time that's happened to me.
Man, I've seen that in movies, though never here. Maybe it's an American thing :)) I think it's different though, or at least, I imagine it to be - an act of rebellion, a 'wild' moment while remaining completely safe... which I suppose is the same as what these men do, except they probably do it more often.
What a wonderful world where we can honk at random weird :))
Just for the record the only time I honk in my car is when some asshole doesn't move within one millisecond at the lights when they go green.
Oh, also when people try to cut me off.
Aaand when pedestrians jump out from behind parked vehicles to cross the road.
And when people go slow in the fast lane.
And...Well, let's just say I'm too busy honking at other motorists to notice pretty girls on the sidewalk.

I have no clue why blokes honk like you mention...Feeling of empowerment maybe? Maybe blokes think it's a compliment? It's an odd thing really.

It's very odd..I don't particularly mind, I just think it's stupid :))
Places to be, things to do... Can't be sitting around so some asshole can check if they got another LIKE on Facebook. So they get honked.

it is like peaceful people who can be aggressive drivers, feeling empowered by their vehicles. They feel protected, difficult to slap them straight in the face or kick their balls etc

That's an excellent point actually. Not that I slap idiots who shout out stupid things on the street. Or kick them in the balls. What's the sense? As long as they're not aggressive, why should I be?
But I suppose you're right. There's a certain anonymity to it, so that might be the reason. Still odd as hell, though :))
Men, especially the young or inexperienced, seek your validation more than your hoo-ha.
By honking, they expect you to hand over your smile or a hair flick so they can feel they had a "positive" interaction with you.
And there's like 1% for whom gaming is their natural state, so they are always "on". They honk because they're in a car; they'd approach you if you were in a club etc.
Huh. I didn't think of it like that, I must admit. Maybe it's because I don't really see it as validation...

Maybe it is to get the girls attention so they will turn and show the face? Dunno. I don't get wolf whistling either or a whole lot of other behaviours. Generally, the types of guys that practice these things don't have much of a chance of attracting any of the girls they call to.
Is that why they're honking? Huh, and I thought it was because blondes are just crazy-attractive :)) Thanks for clarifying that one :P
And what if she shows her face and it's hideous? That would be fun, actually, to have some really creepy make-up or a Halloween mask and turn and frighten the shit out of these guys :))
Well, certainly not with that behavior. I'm puzzled by such behavior too. It's not particularly annoying or anything. Usually, it's just...dumb.
This is why it has to be done from the safety of the car - quick get away :)
So that's why those guys sped up after I turned. Shit, that's kinda rude...:))

It is merely biology I think @honeydue the male species base aim is procreation so just because the human animal decided to look at their reflection one day and say 'hey that's me' and become self aware, the biology stays. I think for many men it's simply a numbers game. Try EVERYTHING and something WILL work. I bet a lot of these men HAVE got responses to honks, it might be one in 10,000 but odds mean nothing to the base animal thought patterns latent in the human species
