Living in non-attachment - people, wealth, crypto

In Buddhism, a lesson is taught that you shall live life in non-attachment.

I am not a buddhist but am particularly interested by the concept of non-attachment because I believe it really does help bring joy and happiness.

This concept can be used in everyday life and we can become attached to other people, material items, wealth etc. When we become attached to these things, we become obsessed with them. This is very unhealthy because it means we find life unsatisfactory.

Getting attached to other people is a sure way to get hurt, especially in romantic relationships. There must be equal unity within a relationship. I'm not saying you shouldn't show emotion but there must be some seperation and you can't always rely on the other person.

Even with cryptocurrency, we can get too attached. We are always told that only invest what you can afford and this means being in a state of non-attachment.

It is also important to remember that the advice is not to detach from people in your life or from your experiences, but instead to recognise that non-attachment is our original state.

Quote from John Daido Loori (Zen Teacher); "According to the Buddhist point of view, non-attachment is exactly the opposite of separation. You need two things in order to have attachment: the thing you’re attaching to, and the person who’s attaching. In non-attachment, on the other hand, there’s unity. There’s unity because there’s nothing to attach to. If you have unified with the whole universe, there’s nothing outside of you, so the notion of attachment becomes absurd. Who will attach to what?"
