what is yoga?

-What is yoga, exactly? Is it just an exercise form? Is it a religion, a philosophy, an ideology? Or is it something else entirely? The word "yoga" literally means "union". In this article offers the following yoga definition; essentially, "that which brings you to reality.

-capitalized : a Hindu theistic philosophy teaching the suppression of all activity of body, mind, and will in order that the self may realize its distinction from them and attain liberation

-a system of physical postures, breathing techniques, and sometimes meditation derived from Yoga but often practiced independently especially in Western cultures to promote physical and emotional well-being

there are many definition about yoga-

The word “yoga” essentially means, “that which brings you to reality”. Literally, it means “union.” Union means it brings you to the ultimate reality, where individual manifestations of life are surface bubbles in the process of creation. Right now, a coconut tree and a mango tree have popped up from the same earth. From the same earth, the human body and so many creatures have popped up. It is all the same earth.

It moves you from the sympathetic nervous system to the parasympathetic nervous system.

It improves your romantic relationship.

It helps you deal with family of origin issues.

It helps you build your sense of self.

Nice explanation! I used to do Yoga when I was child. In fact we had a yoga class in our school. Got busy with life and not able to give myself any time. May be I will start practicing Yoga again.

i loved the post , giving full explanation and describing the yoga as it is, personally i began yoga 6 months ago .A light stretch fo a 15 min with a 5 min meditation give me tons of energy, i couldn't even waste that energy to max. yoga is just a fantasy not all yoga can relieve stress, even yoga can cause prolonged stress
