Insert Icebreaker Here
Oh hi Steem World.
My name is Kimberley. If I were introducing myself to a new group of students, this is where I would wave frantically and try to smile welcomingly.
Me, smiling welcomingly in Scotland
I should probably begin by saying I’m block chain illiterate. I first heard of Bitcoin only a year ago, and even then I thought my friend was lying. To be fair, he was explaining it in the context of mining, and really—mining the internet for a currency (that’s name sounds like it is from a video game) seems pretty... mythological.
Needless to say I missed that boat. I guess I’m here on Steem because I would prefer not to miss another.
Plus, my boyfriend @somebuttstuff (let’s just ignore the handle) and his sister @caitycat and brother-in-law @mstafford spoke very highly of the platform and the community.
Christopher says he likes being my boyfriend despite the apparent fear in his eyes
What content can you expect from me? Well, I’m a classic Canadian in that I love to be outdoors. I’m also venturing (hesitantly) into the world of rock climbing. I have a dog named Chewie and he is a majestic specimen (though not-so-mildly overweight) and I talk about him a lot.
Chewie’s full name is Chewbacca Michael William
I’m a high school humanities teacher and I hope to write at least one post a week sharing some teaching tips, along with some funny stories regarding classroom antics and the art of transforming failures into successes.
I’ll admit right now I have a pretty serious social media habit on instagram. I take pictures of books and post them daily. We insiders call it “bookstagram” and it’s pretty weird, but weird is kind of my jam. Mostly I read YA. I like to pretend it’s so I can bond with my students but really I just like it. I’ll try to do a book review once a week too.
Example of bookstagramming
Traveling takes up a lot of my money (real talk, can I pay off my student loan by talking to you all) and I was lucky enough to go to the UK twice in 2017, along with New York and some trips closer to home. Other past adventures include Vietnam, Cambodia, Mexico and the USA.
That’s all I can think of right now, and I’m actually chaperoning a field trip as we speak so I should probably go do some work. Thanks for stopping by and saying hi!
Welcome Kimberley!
Thanks so much! I’m excited to be here.
Hi Kimberley,
Since @mstafford was one of the invitees of the Fresh Five, I guess we need to say hi to you as well! hahaha
The Fresh Five is a new Steemian curation effort, geared toward rewarding new Steemians who deliver interesting, fun, thought provoking, or just plain silly introduction posts.
We invite you to come to our Engagement Post and join the comment thread where we hope to encourage engagement and interaction with your fellow Steemians.
Each week we go out and invite new Steemians to our weekly engagement post, where you can get to know some other new Steemians, and some more established folks who like to welcome new members of our community. We hope to see you there!
Looking forward to seeing you dig in to Steem and join the community!
Okay! That sounds fun! I’ll check it out!
Oh nice you got a fresh five shout out! Well spotted!
I'm excited that another person listened to me and made an account. I'm going to be less excited when you inevitably get way more popular on here than me.
I don’t think that’s inevitable at all! We will be equally popular!
Welcome to steemit! I look forward to hearing more about your travels.
Thank you! I am looking forward to talking about them but also having more 😅
We all look forward to that next adventure, believe me...
Welcome aboard. Look forward to your journey.
Thank you! I appreciate the boat metaphor 😅
Hi greetings for you, have fun if you have joined in steemit, we all support you here
Thank you! I’m excited.
Welcome to Steemit! I love travel and and the outdoors as well. Lately one of my passions has been bikepacking and bike touring. Has taken a bit for me to acquire and find the gear which I like, but I'm enjoy that journey as well. Where have been your favorite places you've traveled?
I hope you enjoy your time here and be sure to check out DTube as well. It's the video platform based on the Steem Blockchain. Kind regards.
I love the Isle of Skye and Hoi An in Vietnam! But so many other places as well. Biking of any kind is intense!
Thank you for the tip.
I'm not familiar with either of those, but I'll have to look them up! I enjoy the biking, but tend to take it pretty easy on more tour related type rides. No more than 60 miles per day and usually on fairly light conditions.
I have some friends who are very in to Mountain biking and because we live in a fairly mountainous place, they are quite good.
I will definitely check out your account to see what you do!
Yaaayyy welcome, missy! This will be fun! I'm excited to read your teaching posts. Well, all of your posts, but those ones sound particularly interesting. Good luck in Van this weekend!
Thank you thank you! This is very thrilling. Though steem is already taking away from my marking. Ahhhhhhh whatever, right?
Hope you crazy kids have a nice time on your adventure tomorrow.

hey i never thought bookstagramming exists!
It’s not an app or anything, just a sub community within Instagram. If you want to look at my account it’s book_banter 🙂🙂
Hi Kim !
Sou talked so much about Steemit that i wanted to check it out. So now i'm on here, have no idea how it works but you're the first person i'm following ! This is rather exciting 😄
