What is Steemit and How to Get Rewards from It?
I know by now there’s a few posts on this topic had been discussed. However, I wish to write this post for my friends and newbies in regards what is Steemit and how do we get rewards from it.
Steemit is a decentralized social network where both authors and curators get monetary rewards.
As a registered member or what we called a “Steemian”, you can write your content and post it on Steemit. You can write about anything, any topics that you like as long you don’t commit plagiarism. Means, your posts must be originals content. If you want to use other people’s images, make sure you write a credit to the owner. The next thing you need to do is to choose tags that are relevant to your post. Currently, steemit limits your post having 5 tags or less.
Trending tags on Steemit
Steemit runs on the blockchain, the same technology that powers Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. The blockchain allows information and transactions to be verified quickly, securely and automatically. Because the site can pay you automatically, there is no need for a big corporate infrastructure and there is no corporation to run away with your profits.
What is Blockchain?
I found one post written by @bitrocker2020 explaining what is blockchain. So far the best explanation I’ve read 😁
So How Does It Work?
The best thing about Stemmit is that you don’t have to be an excellent writer although you need a good content to attract other steemians to upvote your post.
If you have submitted your post and realized there’s an error (spelling, grammar, etc), you are allowed to edit your post up to 7 days from the day you’ve submitted. Why? Because rewards will be distributed to you on the 7th days in the form of cryptocurrency.
As the author, you will get 75% rewards and the 25% will be divided to the curators (people that upvoted your post).
Out from the 75%, half of it will be in Steem Dollar (SBD) and half of it in Steem Power.
If you upvoting other people's post, you will receive reward too as a curator. The reward is called curation rewards and after a post-payout, you will be paid in Steem Power.
The more Steem Power you have, the more value your upvotes worth.
Oh, after the 7th days, you can’t edit or upvote anymore (but you still can comment or resteemed). Everything will be concreted permanently on the steem blockchain. So, each post published is copyrighted to you as a publisher.
Now, this is what I learned from other sifus when is the best time to vote.
- If you upvoted a post that was just posted = 100% will go to the author
- If you upvoted 15 minutes after it's posted = 50% will go to the author and 50% will go to the curator.
- If you upvoted 30 minutes after it's posted = 100% of the curation award will go to the curator.
I hope the above gives some clarifications to you guys.
To Tess, I knew you can’t wait to start writing. Please wait a little bit more for the password. After all, patience is a virtue 😝

Hello Viverridae,
Thank you so much for writing this highly informative post. Like Medium, we are using Steemit as part of our community outreach. (Our internet based operating system has been around since 2014 https://friendup.cloud/ ).
Your post sums up what Steemit is all about in a nice and concise way. The platform has been a great asset for the team at FriendUP. We have found it to be a really good tool for teaching the basics of HTML to people as well.
