Good day beautiful steemians. December has always been a joyous time for me because of the holidays. I get to spend time with family and friends, hang out, sleep, see some movies, have loads of fun and just do me. It has been a very busy week for me and family. So it turned out that the long awaited wedding since March this year finally came through. My brother in-law’s niece decided to come to Nigeria from London to do her traditional wedding. The lady in question is my name sake and hails from Etche in Rivers State while the groom hails from Iguruta in Rivers State. From Monday of the week down to Wednesday which is the day for the wedding proper, family members have been going to Etche to help with the preparation. Friends from around the world also came to grease the occasion.

Prior to this time, the bride had already sent us the attire for the asoebi which is very lovely. All I had to do was to give it to a fashion designer to make something nice for me. As I wasn’t so sure of the style I wanted for the occasion, I told the fashion designer to make me something nice and honestly, she delivered beyond my expectation because it was during the occasion I realized that my dress was unique among the others and I was happy. The week before the wedding, I had to take permission from my boss to enable me attend the wedding that Wednesday and I was granted permission to go for the wedding.
On Wednesday morning of the traditional wedding day, I left my house for Etche by 6:00am. Getting there, I realized that there is nothing much to do except to eat breakfast and chat with the girls. Event planners and caterers were already employed to do the hard work of arranging the venue, cooking, serving guests and making sure all are well taken care of.

The asoebies were also told that make-up artists have been contracted to take care of our face. So the make-up artists came to us and made us look good. We were all also given a handfan and gele to match with our outfit. Someone was also contracted to tie gele for everyone and we didn’t have to pay any money for any of the services rendered.

The wedding started at 2:00pm and the groom’s men led the groom out to greet guests and family then the asoebies led the bride out for first greeting of the guests. There was music and dancing. After the first outing, the groom and bride went in and changed their attire and then it was time for the marriage proper. During the second outing, the groom’s men came out with the groom and sat in a hidden corner. Then the bride and her girls came out and danced their way to meet the bride’s father to give her a cup of wine to look for her husband among the crowd (this seems to be the custom of the Igbos or the Igbo related communities). She danced with her girls all the way to where the groom is, knelt down and gave him the wine. He took the wine and placed a bundle of money into the cup and then carried her off to their parents. The parents all prayed for them and wished them well. After this, the couple hit the dance floor where a traditional marriage certificate was handed over to them as is the custom of the Etche people. There was lots of dancing and happiness in the air and the couple cut their beautiful cake.
