The Diary Game 26/06/24: Cycling along the Dortmund–Ems Canal in Münster
Today is one of the hottest day of our all by now three weeks of holidays, it seems summer is finally there, it is forecasted +30C.
We wanted to go a trip with bikes and the best is along the canal that is passing through our city, last two years the city upgraded the ground, the surface is covered with smooth asphalt and it is going almost from one side of the work to another.
The canal is called Dortmund–Ems Canal, it is 269-kilometre and you can see Münster marked there too.
Starting from the early morning, it is 7AM, once you open the window it is blue sky and no clouds, still a bit cool but we knew that it definitely will get warmer.
So we decided to have our morning coffee and start our journey.
I have very sensitive skin to sun recently it there is direct exposure without suncream my skin becomes itchy and covered with rash. That is why I apply the suncream on all exposed skin area.
Along canal everything look the same, we usually walk along the canal every day but this time we were on bikes.
The good thing about this path is that there are few areas of recreation, small covered spaces that can give you a shelter if it is raining. There are couple of benches outside I think for those who would like to spend time in sunny area. Inside of the shelter there is a map with the local area, so if you decide to visit any farmer in neighbourhood you can see how to reach them. This time farmers have fresh strawberries fresh picked from the first harvest. The rest of vegetables are not really of our interests.
We stayed outside, I usually like to lie down on bench and look in sky, observe birds and sometimes planes. There were not many clouds so nothing to play a game "I spy with my little eye", that is something I recall every time I look into sky.
Now it is time to continue our journey and to travel back. The wind this time came from front and it was exhausting to ride. I then thought it is good to have a battery assisted bikes. For the next year it is in our basket to buy.
It was about 16 km to and back and we were tired it was our first ride and immediately such a long journey.
