Summer Holiday: Covid tests and self-isolation
Hello my dear Steemians,
Another summer and we still have moved any further. The words like masks, quarantine, Covid test and vaccine firmly integrated our daily life. People stopped traveling and we are almost getting used to live isolated on our own.
I remember speaking to one of my colleague who has young children who said that when they were speaking at home about Covid saying that the time of wearing mask may come to end soon. One of the children said that even if it will not be obligatory he will still wear masks outside. I believe after 2 years of having masks, for the children that is almost like normality.
As to us, we are going back home to Germany for few weeks. But it is almost an adventure with the whole preparation.
First of all, UK is still considered to be country on “Red” list, that means when on boarding we need to have two NEGATIVE Covid tests: one is PCR ₤240 and another from ferry own rapid tests ₤220.
When then on return those two + 1 extra tests need to be repeated. There are only certain providers of test are recognized, that is why in order to get tests for three of us to and back about ₤1000. The ferry tickets to travel costs us only ₤670. That is ridiculous but those test centers know that people still take it because without the tests you are stuck.

Anyway, now we are ready with our first half of tests, another we will do before onboarding. The peaperwork is done and the next when we are in Germany we will be self-isolating in our house for 14 days. The only positive side, we have big garden and everything can be delivered by online services.
But at the end I can only say:

Traveling abroad became rare and expensive and sometimes unpredictable as it was in the past, half a century ago and before. So new (hopefully temporary) normality has flavour of the forgotten old one. A thing to think about ...

Thank you :) It is right travelling now is a luxury rather than relaxation. We were preparing for the whole year saving just for this trip. It is a shame that this is a situation.

In Argentina it got out of hand, we have already had more than 4 million people affected and more than 90 thousand dead.

It seems that it is getting slowly permanent rather than temporary, just wish it is over. I wish you and your family to stay safe :)
I estimate that this disease will remain permanent for a few years, as has happened with other pandemics.
We dear friend @stef1 keep ourselves locked up, we go out as little as possible, it is the best way to take care of yourself.

£1000, @stef1???? That's absolutely ridiculous... I would have thought the NHS would have been funding things like that... wow. At least Covid tests and vaccines are free here in the USA, where everything otherwise is super expensive!
Here, summer is starting with a slight loosening of restrictions... but it seems like the entire "pandemic language" isn't going away, anytime soon. The new normal?

Yes, that is a reality and luxury of travelling. Those companies owners of ferries and air lines do not recognize NHS tests that are free of charge but require only from certain companies and they charge such prices. I believe it is like "one hand washes the other" at the end we normal people suffer.
Anyway, we finally arrived and hope that will enjoy our summer days :)

Your watercolor is very beautiful, I have covid at this time, my mother and I are in treatment but my son did not present any symptoms. I hope to be completely well soon, we are grateful that it has not been hard as in other people. Hugs

Enjoy your holiday @stef1! I do know how the Covid-19 testing we are forced to do when back home in the UK massively increased our holiday costs. Thank you Rusana, the costs for tests made it impossible for many to travel, despite of double vaccination it does not play any role. Really ridiculous. Thank you for link :)
