Kennedy Space Center Attraction - Historic

Many people are unaware that Kennedy Space Center has a tourist park with a full size Space Shuttle as the key attraction. Found in Cape Canaveral Florida about a few miles from the launch pad, NASA has created a very educational tourist attraction which gives the history or space travel, actual space ships and even tours of the NASA grounds via a bus tour.
Upon entry to the park you are greeted by the great US President John F Kennedy and his quote on space travel. We are all familiar with his challenge to the NASA to land on the moon. The whole country and world stood still as the first astronaut landed on the moon.
At the park you see actual space suits used and look at technology that is now almost 50 years old. They say there is more computing power in the new mobile phones then the earlier space ships.
To see the Space Shuttle Atlantis you are in awe of its size. It’s suspended in the air and you can see how large the payload area is and see the space tiles up close that were needed to shelter the ship from re-entry.
Of course there are plenty of gift shops and cafes to eat with the family. If you are going in the summer, not to worry, almost all the exhibits are indoors so you do not have to sit in the sun.
Of course there are plenty of historic videos of older space missions and the infamous Apollo 13 flight which kept the nation spellbound as it was forced to improvise in getting back to earth.
I remember the the older Space Shuttle history and it’s challenges. Those astronauts were truly heroes as they put their lives on the line.
A real treat was when we were leaving and walking to our cars, we actually hear the rumbling and seen the lift off of a rocket at the cape. The hole ground was shaking a bit and you felt as the the rocket disappeared into the clouds. It really is a nice trip if you plan to visit the Orlando area and tourist destinations. It’s not more than a 45 minute drive from Disney and maybe another 30 minutes to Cocoa Beach for all the sun worshipers!
