RoadToHiveFest: Entering Poland

A fair bit has happened in the past few days and since my last RTHF post. I’ve arrived in Poland, and the Queen has died. Long live… Hive!

Yes, so whilst on my travels, dear ol’ Elizabeth has passed on. Always sad for those involved but she lived a good life. I’m not a fan of the whole monarchy thing; it always struck me as odd (to say the least) but we can also be respectful, and she was a part of everyone’s lives in a sense. When the dust settles, it might be time to take a look at this institution. But that’s a conversation for another day. Good luck Charlie!

As for me, I left England via Bristol and headed for the delightful Polish city of Kraków! This is where I am now writing this. I had a bit of a walkabout yesterday and the city has all the charm I was expecting. It feels right as a place to hang out for a while.

As mentioned in an earlier post, I was a bit gutted to miss out on what was SteemFest 2018 here and have also been meaning to come for a while other than that. For some people there may also be issues entering the Netherlands for tourism purposes from outside the EU/Schengen. Traveling within is not an issue though for anyone so this also gets around that if you happen to be in that position.

I didn’t take any pics yesterday, which is a bit of a shame as it’s raining today and not looking too great for tomorrow. I’ll still get out and see what I can do but it does limit you a bit. The last couple of days here should be ok, so I can cram in some stuff then.

Actually, I did take one pic - that was of my beer I got from the shop, sampling some Polish produce…

I’ll be flying into Eindhoven on Wednesday (the day before HiveFest) then getting the train up to Amsterdam. I did see on the Telegram group some chat about potential rail strikes on the 13th and 15th. I don’t know if that’s correct or going ahead but could be a concern for some going up on the day. By a stroke of luck, I’ll be going on the 14th (well I say luck but I always like to travel the day before and day after an event, where possible, partly for this reason but also to relax and enjoy). There are workarounds like buses and lifts but hopefully everyone will make it on time!

That’s about it for today… hopefully I’ll be able to fit in some activities here in Kraków as well as get on with some work. My hotel room is decent (and cheap, especially compared to Amsterdam!), so not a bad place to base myself and tap away at my laptop. And if you have any recommendations for Kraków then feel free to comment below.

I might slip in another of these posts before I go, or perhaps when I arrive in Amsterdam. Cheers!
