A visit to the Devram Temple, Pannipitiya Sri Lanka...

in OCD5 years ago

Hello Wonderful Steem Community,

I had heard of the Devram Temple, which is very close to the Pannipitiya town in the Colombo district, but I never got a chance to visit it. I didn't even get a chance to go to work in Colombo because I came to Galle, my home on Poya days. Devram Temple, as I have heard, is a temple with beautiful frescoes and statues. So somehow I didn't want to miss it. I finally got the opportunity to visit the Devram Temple in Pannipitiya.

Walking inside the temple, I saw a very old Nuga tree. Look at the roots of this tree. They rise above the ground and create a spectacular view. The Nuga Tree is a wonderful tree that makes this kind of scene. I have shown photos of the Nuga Tree on previous occasions.

Walking outdoors, I saw a statue of the Buddha in white. As I got closer, I could see how the eyes were slightly exposed. But I have seen in statues before that when you fall asleep, your eyes do not degenerate. But the opinion of those who made these statues was very beautiful. This is a really amazing show.

A little beyond that, I saw a statue of the Buddha. It's a little statue. So I photographed it from the bottom of the statue. The waves of the Buddha's robe were carefully crafted by the idol collector. It was a truly remarkable show. So I slightly edited the photo so you can see it clearly. A beautifully crafted work of ancient carvings. Older people are more creative and capable than people today. In those days, they did everything with less technical facilities.

As I have heard before, the frescoes in the Buddha Mandira are very impressive. So after all the pilgrimage, I came to the entrance of the Buddha Mandir.

The door of the Buddha Mandir was open for us. There was no problem. Above the door I saw a variety of designs in gold. In the meantime I could see the lotus flower logo very clearly. It is a characteristic feature of Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka. Also, the scrolls were painted with lotus flowers.

These murals are painted by the Buddha and the royal family, but I saw a very different design that is not found in the murals of Sri Lanka. I have not seen this kind of mural on occasions when I have visited other temples. This is often the case with paintings depicting Korean Buddhist features. I don't have enough evidence to say that. However, it is clear that this is different from the Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka.

The above two murals depict the similarities of Buddhist culture in Sri Lanka. Here are the instances of the annual Esala Perahera of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. The first mural depicts two royal men carrying caskets. The second picture depicts an elephant holding the sacred Tooth Relic on its back. This is a great moment in Sri Lankan culture.

The above statues show how the Arahant Mahinda Thera who introduced Buddhism to Sri Lanka came to Sri Lanka and preached the Dhamma from the Mihintale rock to King Devanampiyatissa. It is said that King Devanampiyatissa had gone hunting for a deer before he was confronted. He stopped hunting deer and listened to the dialogue of the Arahant Mahinda.

This was a time when the Buddha came to the Enlightenment, under a tree on a rainy day. According to the history, a cobra named Muchlinda came to the Buddha and protected him from the rain. This is the time when this sculpture represents it.

The frescoes and statues of the Buddha were found in the past. I have learned all these things through my Buddhist philosophy. Increasingly, I was able to use them in my school and Sunday school. The stories here are all historical and have the potential to set a precedent for our lives.

The statue of Buddha at the end is a very light posture and protected by glass. Therefore, it could not be clearly captured when photographing it. I'm sorry about that. It was decorated with artificial wreaths in front of the Buddha statue. Due to the reflection from the glass, only the scenes in front of the Buddha statue can be seen. However, my visit to the Devram Temple gave me a wealth of experience. Thanks for visting.
