Critics of early table manners say that children should learn on their own and insisting on making them adhere to certain eating etiquette might frustrate their ability to learn appropriately. Such sources believe that by pressuring kids to adopt certain behavioral standards during eating may have an adverse effect of suppressing their creativity.

Wow I never really saw it from this perspective at all. Now I think of it, they may have a point at the beginning but I also believe that at a certain age preferably from age 5 upwards, a child be taught proper table manners.
