WHY AM I SO HESITANT TO PUT MY ACTIVE KEY IN?....
Yay! Hive! Yay!
And yet, here I am over on lame old Steemit... Why? I guess it's because I really have a hard time trusting a lot of people here. Sure, I've given away at least thousands of STEEM, but that was my choice. I never gave anyone access to wallet in those transactions and if my generosity was taken advantage of, it was still my choice. That said...
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL... ANY ADVICE?
A lot of great apps, dapps, frontends, and projects have showed up over the years of the STEEM blockchain, and I mostly ignored all of them, because I wasn't going to be giving them my private keys, whether posting, active, or master.
Sure, lots of great things can be said about a lot of the people behind those projects, but I'd heard way too many crypto rip-off stories. It would be easy for someone with the skills to create something amazing, get almost everyone to log in, and let it run for a while.... while the value was low.
But once the value of the crypto increases, so does the temptation. When someone could potentially become a millionaire overnight, it may be hard to resist not hacking accounts and emptying wallets. We know some of the crypto may be tied up as "power," but you get my point. Everything else would be rather vulnerable, wouldn't it?
Four years ago, crypto, and the internet in general, was rather new to me. Time and time again people repeated the mantra "Don't give anyone your keys." Then, more and more opportunities to share my keys kept arising. So here I sit, wondering if I should log into peakd or use the Hive keychain or something like that....
Also, with the whole Covid-19 "situation" going on, I can't help but wonder about when people create a problem and then offer you up their pre-selected "solution." I'm not saying that's what happened with the witnesses and the whole Justin Sun situation, it's just that if there were evil masterminds working hard at scamming, exploiting, and robbing, I may be not match for such masterminds, especially if I've already given them my active key.
So, am I just crazy and contemplating unrealistic scenarios full of unwarranted skepticism, or is there any potential validity to my concerns? I understand that "most people" are fine with using the Hive keychain, but I'm also aware that sometimes "most lemmings" in a group run over a cliff and plunge to their deaths....
I haven't moved yet, they put the Trustless in Trustless... lol
Both sides though. The it was escalating you never knew what was going to happen.
I think things are calming down.
I would wait until they sorted that dang wallet out :O)
I have not logged in and don't plan too. I am concerned it will just end up a crypto version of the Chan Boards given the actors involved in that project. All the abusing, spamming, childish, delusional, ego tripping, 1mil account holding problems went over there to continue business as usual. I am not interested. I'm only still here because I already have the account and it's a voice even though it is a very small one. I think it's pretty much over for real bloggers either way you go.
It really is hard to know who to trust.
You could just use your key to log into peakd then change both keys. They would change to something unique.
I haven't logged in yet and as of right now I don't plan too. I cashed out 3/4ths of my Steem last week before the Hive went live. I traded my Steem for some Litecoin with that last little spike in price Steem had going back up to 31 cents. 769 Steem got me 6.42 in Litecoin. So I'm happy with that. Took me two years to earn that much Litecoin. I'll probably buy a little bit more when my power down is finished. Even though I've had my grievances with Steemit I really only stick around for the free speech outlet it gives me. I'd post more often but things in my personal life are too chaotic right now and have been for some time. sigh
Yup, you have explained my fears exactly.
When I decide to login to HIVE, I will at the exact same moment change my Steemit keys...
And then change my HIVE keys next.
Although I get your point, I - personally - would be more concerned about getting my Steem out of my wallet ( due to what is happening around there since Sun took over ), then being concerned about what could happen with my HIVE ( wallet ).
I understand the uncertainty though and why people would want to wait till the dust has settled. If it's helping you at all, HIVE feels like a safe place and you're welcome to come hang out in the Tribesteemup or Natural Medicine discord to get questions on your answers and to ease your concerns.
All the best,
Vincent
Hi there
I've been reading through many comments related to new hive chain and I've seen your comment too. Many users are being torn, however majority seem to be moving to new hive.
Are you fully moving there or will you stay on both chains? Just curious. I'm trying to figure out what to do myself.
I am fully moving. Not feeling good about Steemit any longer ( spent 2 years and 9 months on here ). I'm just logging in on here - every now and then - to check for comments.
Are you active on discord and, if so, have you joined the Hive discord already?
Big Thx for your reply. I think i will stick around on both chains for time being.
I also figured that you may find this post interesting and worth your time:
https://steemit.com/hive-175254/@project.hope/project-hope-curation-trail-on-both-chains-steem-and-new-hive
It's post published by good friend of mine and I'm helping him to promote their curation trail.
ps. I'm not really active on Discord. Chatting apps are consuming to much time.
Hi there,
I totally get it. Chatting can be very time consuming indeed but it is how I build connections and stay in touch with my blogging friends. It's also a great place to get your questions answered ( rapidly )
I just replied to Juan Molina and will definitely check out Project Hope.
Have a nice day!
Un abrazo desde Holanda,
Vincent
So far, Hive has been a great place to explore and hangout. Eventhough there's no auto-votes yet (like there is on Steem), the rewards seem to be higher. Unfirtunately, with Sun being in charge of Steem now, i've personally lost all hope of the platform being decentralized. I cone come back and be around Steem a little because #1 old habits die hard and #2 i miss some ppls presence --like your own. I am not certain but so far I have only had to use my posting key to start buzzing around. All the best in your decision making! ❤☀️🐝
I'm no help. I haven't decided what to do either. Too much going on outside of here to worry about this much.
