Beautiful Sunday: a walk along an old canal, เดินเล่นริมคลอง

Nowadays people have started to go out shopping at malls, travel into seaside and take long holidays at popular resorts and seaside beaches. But the number of people on these shopping malls has not risen; it seems lots of people are still afraid to go to public places or big shopping arcades.

This bodes bad news for retail sale and small businesses. People have found shopping only very convenient and speedy in delivery. Restaurants have suffered quite badly too; I often see very few people eating out in popular restaurants. The service industry is in doldrums; more unemployment in the near future.

On a quiet weekend, I went for a walk along the old canal near Chinatown in Bangkok. Two years ago, this place was crowded and blustering with food stalls, buskers and several gift shops. I was quite surprised to find this tourist attraction very quiet with no good vendors. It was nice to have the whole place to myself but the atmosphere was rather sad. It would have been more fun to see lively scenery with colourful people and some nice food stalls.

แม้ว่าตอนนี้ชีวิตคนเริ่มกลับสู่ภาวะเกือบปกติ แต่เราก็ยังเห็นร้านอาหารตามห้างสรรพสินค้า ค่อนข้างโล่ง มีคนนั่งอยู่ไม่ถึงครึ่ง เดี๋ยวนี้คนเริ่มสั่งซื้ออาหารและสินค้า ทางออนไลน์มากขึ้น เราเองยังซื้อต้นไม้ออนไลน์เลย นั่นหมายความว่า เศรษฐกิจและการทำงานจะเปลี่ยนแปลงไป. คนจะตกงานมากขึ้น เราเดินท่ามกลางความเงียบเหงาของคลองโอ่งอ่างแล้ว ก็ใจหาย ไม่เคยคิดว่ากรุงเทพ และสถานที่เก่าแก่ จะเปลี่ยนไปถึงขนาดนี้. ทำให้เราต้องปลงมากขึ้น และทำใจยอมรับความไม่แน่นอนในอนาคต
