Plagiarism is a plague!

weekend chit chat.jpg

In the past few months, things have changed on Steemit, which has given SCs (Steemit Curators) more freedom to upvote. A good reason to cheer and be grateful.

It is understandable that if there's a bull run there is a power down when it comes to investors. Those who now have access to Steem get a higher value and can buy more Steem for this when the price drops. Unfortunately, I cannot participate because I have not found a way to participate. So... if you are active, you can get an upvote from an SC team.

What is not appreciated is stealing other people's content.
This year I have seen this happen more than once and not only by those who post a text but also by those leaving e a comment. Parts of the written text are copied to make comments seem longer and a few words are added. I find that sickening and I would rather have someone say: sorry, I don't know what to say than to have to read my own text. I have noticed that many people do not even recognize their own text. Sometimes this is because it is posted in a different language, but often that is not the case. I am surprised by this. How can it be that you do not recognize what you wrote? Even if you write as many posts as I do, you should recognize your writing style or at least think: this sounds familiar t. me?

Plagiarism is theft!

And I know for sure that you will be furious if someone steals something from you that you are proud of. It does not matter whether this is text, a photo, a drawing, a statue, a cup or a dog. Writing text takes time and many invest many hours in writing. So why do you take it so lightly?

Is there a good reason to steal the text of others? Are you faster if you copy it? I don't think so, but that may be because I have never seen a text that I would label as mine. Even AI can't show me anything that makes sense so I'm faster at typing myself than rewriting every line because the text is not my writing style and that dear reader is something you may not notice but I do. I read a lot and I can see if the text was written by someone else. Indeed I am that idiot who scrolls through posts and the comments you left if I even think something is wrong and... there is a lot wrong when I read around me even within my own curator team.

How is it possible that moderators and curators trample on the most basic rule?
Is this what they call pride? It must be rewarding since many are given chance after chance and nothing changes and the excuses remain the same.

You don't know how to write?

Post good pictures instead and add a few words. Steemit has possibilities for everyone, even for those who are not writers or are short on time although I think 3 posts a week should be feasible.

Don't be a thief!
Instead of stealing text
WRITE and...
Be proud of what you post on Steemit!

When I was just starting to blog via social blogging platform which is not in this site but from a website way back from 2013, a social blogging site, that is what we call it back then which at first I thought was heaven -sent for me for the reason that I am already a dialysis patient at that time I can't really possibly find work nor I am qualified for any work whatsoever, but from that site I can make $16 dollars a day with only my hands and a little brain power plus my time as my investment although it is still hard to do considering that I was doing it till my body wants to rest already.

That place in the Internet in those years is called "Bubblews, short name from bubble news" which should be a place for people to interact normally and also just abiding by the site's basic rules which is a basic forum rules like not to plagiarize texts, photos, and all that until people just did not paid attention to it especially in the text side of blogging where the spammers would use translated texts and view, comment, and like other users posts.

Many had gone away with it which bankrupted the coffers of Bubblews because their business model aims to make revenue from ad impressions of users are doing when they visits other people's blogs and do comments plus likes which should be paid one cent per visit. But most of the users are not coming from Europe or US which is why Bubblews went under to bankruptcy which was made worse by spammers leaching out money from the website.

That is why many users are stuck with payments unpaid until the site got abandoned while other users stayed hoping for a comeback that never came.

It is the place where I learned about the aforementioned forum rules especially photo attribution while writing it seems to be so natural for me to do. All that I do is to read people's short posts and tell what are my thoughts and opinions about their subject matter. It is fun to do and in those times I can still type and do Internet things while sitting upright until to the months leading to my difficulty in sitting around for long for the reason that my backbone and my general bone health went downhill.

Anyway, when I was just starting to blog in Bubblews, I used a screenshot copy of a man being carried via a wheelchair with part of his leg blown-off with the bone showing. That event in Boston marathon bombing was my first blog post and I was in high spirits that my blog will at least be interesting for other people or users to visit, like, and comment. It is followed by other blog posts that earned until I came to the threshold of $25 accumulated dollars payout where I can request for a payout.

However, the payout didn't came and they cited the pertinent reason, I used a non-free, non-attributed photo, a photo that is basically owned by a news agency because I took a screenshot of one news sources video. I learned the lesson from it and continued to use the site because I was able to make earnings from that point onwards until the Bubblews faded-away and let to expire. About three years later I joined Steemit from a person in chat talking about Steemit all the time, I got curious, I saw that this was a blogging site and made an account because I have some experience in doing blogs. I was able to join during Steemit's high times and then I got lucky, until now. 😀👍

We easily commit plagiarism without being aware of it and we all learned once how to work and mention sources.

I never heard of that platform but know those I used all went bankrupt though I never got paid there except for one years later and the reason I stopped is because I cannot work on it with my phone. I find it a pity since here are Dutch writers and good support for stories, poetry and writing together. There I was asked to join Steemit since Steemit needed good writers. We went with a group and most left after 2 weeks. They didn't found the support and Steemit is too difficult, more like a labyrinth.

I am the one who left and it's not as hoped for. The lack of interaction is why the good writers and artists I know left. They won't return since they have better platforms for like minded and can talk to me elsewhere as well.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it's a pity they didn't explain you earlier what was not acceptable.
I am happy you are on Steemit, you have a lot to share and proof that nothing is impossible if you want it.
I hope more lucky times will lay ahead.
A good weekend to you and your parents.

P. S. Your friend is still on Steemit?

I lost contact to the one that encouraged to join Bubblews later, we got acquainted vi a local forum website and in that website there is a section for almost anything like how to make money from this and that site. We got involved in a Facebook app crowdsourcing work which is a site that I first my first dollar paid via PayPal, he was also the one that made a tutorial about how to make an account in Paypal and linking a local debit card to it.

His account in Facebook is his not his personal account and hos forum account still remains to be anonymous and I also forgot his Facebook account as it got abandoned already.

It is quite surprising that he wasn't able to make money out from Bubblews believe it or not because I guess that writing is not his thing. But for me, it is the only thing that I can do and so I just ceased every hour of almost everyday except when I needed to eat, sleep, use the bathroom and attend church. That is why I had a great success compared to others but with a bit of luck when the Bubblews finance officer, the one that does the payout had posted asking users to post their hung payments and I was online on that crucial moment, I replied my pending payments which was paid but one or two.

After that, the payments ceased because Bubblews's business became unsustainable already, maybe right from the start. I was able to buy a refrigerator replacing our refrigerator bought from 1982 and a 32 inches LED TV which is now not working anymore.

But the money I was able to earn from it just helped me with my medical expenses plus I bought some BTC with it too when BTC was just around $210 dollars. All of these things are my gateway to discovering Steemit in the end Miss @wakeukitty @steemcurator07 and my history is still being written.

It is indeed a fact that whatever we do in life we just needed support even in "real life" because we just cannot live alone, we needed to belong so something or someone because it is a natural thing that life is hard in many aspects and being alone will make it hard for us to continue or else we will give-up just like of many hundreds of users of Steemit and only those that was able to establish themselves are able to continue which are those that loved this platform, the OG of blockchain social media, where dreams comes true and more than we can ask for sometimes with the help and mercy of God. 😀👍

Enjoy the weekends now and as always I appreciate your love and support.
May God bless you always Miss @wakeupkitty

@cryptopie reminded me of experience I had on paid to post platform (PTP). That was a year 2022 to 2023. My friend @alli001 introduced me to the blogging platform and I was curious about how people manage to make money online. He always posted his achievement from the site which lastly draw my interest to it. So I I decided to join him and start blogging.

The platform was friendly as you can publish your post on whatever topics and community you choose. The fun part of it is that you earn points for each post and comments you made on the site. So I was able to write about the topic I like, I searched it on Google, copied it and add few words and post. I was earning points until twhen it reaches a stage I needed to withdraw. My post were review and the payment was cancel or declined with the statementPLAGIARISM. The worst part of it is that I didn't even understand what it means. I was also blocked from the platform. It was painful as I spent most of my time on the site but I didn't abides with the rules which is plagiarism.

After the experience @alli001 discovered another paying platform, the same PTP blogging site. But before I join the platform i do research about plagiarism and I discovered that it's copying someone else's ideas. So in other to succeed in the new platform I had to write my own post, my ideas, my knowledge and my thoughts. Luckily to me after a lot of hard work I was able to earn $5 as my first withdrawal from online platforms.

When he now told me about steemit, I was scared because I thought it more complicated but after sometimes I decided to give it a try. Most time I always like to use a scenario within me in writing my post instead of copying it from internet or plagiarizing. Thank you @alli001,@kidi40, @wakeupkitty and the rest that encourage me on this platform.
We miss bigbuck, advisordia

If you can speak or think you can write. If you type down your thoughts it's a freewrite and it makes what you write more personal, valuable and memorable.
There's no need to repeat what is already posted, copy-paste what we can find everywhere and which is rarely tested, updated or tried out by the writer. Exceptions are more interesting and so are opinions, thoughts, different cultures. That is what we can learn from, deny or adapt, have benefit from and indeed it can bring us down as well.

Find your niche because that is what will lift you to a higher level and makes you a personality.

Thank you for this guidelines, I will be creating my own thoughts instead of copy people's work and post. Please if you don't mind I have something that has been bothering me for a long time. Sometimes when I join a contest, I usually use the hint set by the organizer, but a long the line when checking plagiarism on the write up, I realized that the given hint would be mark as plagiarism. What's the way forward? what should we do at that time? Is it proper changing the contest hint? Am I one only person who noticed it? @wakeupkitty what do you think?

Once again I appreciate for your support, God blessed you.

If you cite something you can write it like this

start with >

What's the way forward? what should we do at that time? Is it proper changing the contest hint

Or "......"

I am not sure if I understand what you mean since 99% cites the questions of contests which could be labelled as plagiarism as well.

But you can always ask the host and fight the deciscion of the moderator. It's not they they are perfect and the AI and plagiarism checkers make mistakes as well. 4-5 might be needed and none is 100% accurate.

If it happens again you can show me that example.

If it happens again you can show me that example

I will as well do that because most time when I check and the question hint is mark as plagiarism, I will change some words or replace it with something else and scan again. That's how I use to bypass it. Thank you for your time, I really enjoyed your company.
Do you have a community for free writer?

Am I lucky if I never seen the theft thingy? I always thought that I probably a theft too, because sometimes I wrote something I read somewhere sometimes ago and I forgot the source. But I don't think it's a good excuse 😞 type on bing or Google, everything is there.. but I wonder 🤔 do the theft check it on plagiarism checker before posting and the re-write it a little. Whatever, as long as they're not copying and improvised my posts 🫣🤭

I trust my feeling, I won't support such action, but didn't the community leader doing the check and leave a comment of verification 🫣 on the post?

Aahh.. who will do that on comments? Is there any consequences like guilty party did in the past? Persecute with down voting all the posts?

If you read someting and write it down in your own words it's not plagiarism, it's allowed. It is plagiarism if you copy-paste and pretend as if you wrote it.
If the theft is caught s/he did not check it first, same for those posting AI text. Can be they don't even know about the tools they can use and that there is more than one checker to figure it out although those plagiarism checkers can be wrong (say it's not stolen and it is or the other way round).

Not all communities check and leave a report behind and if you study the communities closer you will see that frequently moderators and hosts of contests aren't checked/don't receive a moderator report. So who will stop them if they use AI, comment with AI, copy-paste and upvote themselves as a moderator or curator?

Comments can be checked but it's harder because in average there are fewer words and the AI and plagiarism checkers can easily be fooled if there are not enough words or you make some typos in it. Helpful is if you speak the language and are willing to investigate a bit if you feel there's something odd. For example, a Steemian who can hardly write English but suddenly posts perfect text about topics you can be 100% sure of they do not know about. Will such a text always be detected? No. It's easy to fool and I learned this year that many use ghostwriters as well.
Another problem is if you write and translate your text. It can look different but also be detected as plagiarism or AI-generated text although it is human-written.

Downvoting is rarely done but there is steem watcher and curators are not allowed to use the account to downvote but they can take a vote back which is recommended and in this case, also be done by me.

Another problem is if you write and translate your text. It can look different but also be detected as plagiarism or AI-generated text although it is human-written.

Whoaaa... This is new to me🧐 I gotta try using my alt🫣 but... What's the use, none read my post carefully 😂

🥴 You also want to be read! 😯

😉🍀♥️

Why don't I? I don't do 10 minutes typing and post😁 I leave a trap here and there to attract who has the same concern like me, a further digging will give me a treasure

Absolutely. You nailed it. Plagiarism is something we all should frown at. Rather than taking other people's Glory, we should work more on ourselves to see that we grow and become a better version of ourselves.
"Imitation, of course is limitation"

It would be good if we all do and show what we are good at in our way but if I look at the diaries and entries to contests all I can say is that they all look exactly the same. Switching to a different community or posting in one's own blog can be the solution here just like in the old days. You write for you and use the right hashtags.
Thanks for sharing your opinion.

P.s. are you limited?

Why do I feel that you don't like reading diary game or is my mind misleading me? Oh no, you said something about steemit in olden days, would you mind telling us how it was?

 3 days ago (edited)

I read a lot of diaries but a real diary is hard to find. It's not inyeresting to read how someone took a shower, got dressed, had breakfast, took a nap... Most of us are adults and what I miss is creativity but it's the same with the contests. Most entries are the same. It is started to help people to write but wgy not move forward? Why not free weite? Why not join photography if yiu can't write? Why not write about yiur hovbumy, something you like (book, film, party, recipe, trip?

We had great writers, wrote stories together, wordgames, people were motivated to improve. Perhaps those who joined were higher ameducated or had more love for writing? Today I onky read: i love writing, being here (read the newcomers) but most of them don't show iniative, don't look like writers and some say they love to draw but I never saw a single drawing in their account. And if you love to write why not comment? If it's a long comment you can also copy the text and post it and use the hashtag #comment. I did it several times and mentioned the post or text I commented.

I also believe there are too many rules to write in a relaxing way and I am not the only one. There are plenty of old steemians but they post in their blog or in a small community where they are not a number or a mod-report or where they can post as they like without being bothered.

Now I understand what makes you dislike diary and contest. I think the reason most people prefer join contest and diary is to get support because I noticed that it's not easy to get support by posting on a personal blog especially for newcomers. Am saying this from experience because sometimes I will like my post to be seen to be visible and to be supported by whales and I feel like participating in contest is one way of getting to the destination. What do you think?

And if you love to write why not comment? If it's a long comment you can also copy the text and post it and use the hashtag #comment. I did it several times and mentioned the post or text I commented.

I don't really understand what you mean, do you kind explaining it further?
