RE: Art - Thougts of a Curator

Hi @wakeupkitty, @grebmot , @rashid001

I was waiting to respond to this post because it is a topic that interests me. The state of ART in Steemit.

You qualify it with two terms that Google confuses, (lately this translator is becoming an idiot.)

  • "het ondergeschoven kindje": The abandoned child (orphan?)
  • "the ignored child": The ignored child.
I think that both qualifiers fit very well for the subject of art in question and how we have left it orphaned, or ignored it.

The conversation you have with @grebmot and @rashid001, I think, establishes very well the "what we have" and the consequences for the promotion of art in all its expressions here on the platform.

What would you add?
Perhaps the "perceived degradation of art" when comparing it with crafts and hobby tutorials. We would have to define what we will consider ART in capital letters.

How to share a piece of art and have the reader of the post immerse themselves in its entirety?
We would also have to rethink how to present the performances and artistic pieces that are produced, until now we are only translating them into verbal, photographic (often of poor quality) and video codes.

I think it opens up an interesting debate, I firmly believe that Steemit is a space for all types of artistic expression, but in the same way we have to bring back that abandoned son and give him his place as firstborn.

PS: Open to being part of a pro-ARTS team.

I'm pathological rambler, so most of the times I don't know what I'm talking about. As a matter of fact, I'm biting my tongue right now. My ill-begotten advice and worthless chime-ins tend to disturb the natural order of things.

I'll say this though: It does sound like a neat idea, but you guys seem to be borderlining insomnia as it is. As I said, don't take me too seriously, but I figure what would really make a difference is if you somehow managed to incorporate the average user into the curation process. Said it before somewhere, I feel like a mooch. In the sense of not knowing how to properly return the favor, besides showering you with impotent upvotes.

Besides that. I like the whole idea of ousider art and reckon people are just expecting too much. From themselves and maybe from others. I don't know how to articulate this thought properly, so I'll just stop.

Unlike what you believe your vote is never impotent. You make a change and it all depends in who you vote and when what the value is (check if you vote on posts if 6 days old). Since you grow your vote will too but the best reward you give is the engagement you offer.

You call it rambling, I call it a next great read giving me something to think about, smile, consider, like and be grateful for.

We all "return favours" in our own way and with the capabilities we have.

If it comes to deviantart they did not let me in. I could only see the homepage. I will try again.

Well that's strange. I can access deviantart without logging in. Try this link:

Now I can watch it. You have some interesting pieces. Lately AI only?

You're being kind. I appreciate that. Mostly it's just glorified doodles and such. Don't have any delusions of grandeur about it either, just thought it was interesting in terms of being a reflection. Or like a rorschach test of sorts, where as interpretations tend to be about as accurate as your average cleaning lady's dream analysis.

I only did a little bit of AI and got burned out almost instantly. Most of the doodles for that matter are scans, taken from a few A4 folders collecting dust somewhere. You can find some of the scans in the scraps category. Checking the dates you might notice I'm either doing a lot, or nothing at all. Right now I'm deep into nothing at all.

Thinking about it. In an odd way my approach isn't too far off from prompting an image generator. Only it's GrebmotGPT rather than something else.

After reading you I can only say: Let's start! Let's get that child back.

I agree with everything you say and I don't care if there are only two or ten as long as art has a home. I believe it deserves it and it's the foundation of everything we do, preach and promote on Steemit but most have no clue what the word means or how to recognize it.

Art is feelings expressed by craft-skills with the help of certain technics. It is a wide range but we can for sure divide it in a few groups

We would also have to rethink how to present the performances and artistic pieces that are produced, until now we are only translating them into verbal, photographic (often of poor quality) and video codes.

Any ideas? This might be the hardest task since art and writing amd posting do not automatically go hand in hand and just like the photograps, I see drawings and other "crafts" being labelled as art. It might take time to loosen up the Steemian used to post with a template and rules.

I'm delighted that you've expressed your kind words about Art. We can strive to promote art in our own way. Perhaps the day will come when art will also gain prominence.
