TREATMENT FOR EYE INJURIES
Household activities and sports are two of the leading causes of eye injuries. However, even cooking or playing with your dog or cat can scratch your eye. Symptoms may appear immediately or begin or worsen hours after infection.
Causes of scratching the eye:
A corneal abrasion can happen in a variety of ways. Whatever size it is, anything that comes into touch with the surface of the eye might cause harm. Airborne particles such as dust or sand, as well as anything that touches the open eye, are common causes.

Eye scratch treatment:
If your eye has been scratched, consult an eye doctor. Go to the emergency room if you are in severe pain, have difficulty seeing, or are concerned about your eyes. The majority of corneal abrasions and eye scratches are minor and will heal on their own within a few days, but you should still see a doctor for an eye exam.
An ophthalmologist may prescribe antibiotic eye drops or ointment to treat a scratched eye. Steroid eye drops can be prescribed to reduce inflammation and the risk of scarring. You may also be given lubricant eye drops to make you feel more at ease. There are no over-the-counter eye drops for scratched eyes. You should not use any eye drops if you have scratched your eye without first consulting your doctor.
Here are some remedies for scratched eyes:
*Clean your eyes with saline solution or water. If you don't have an eye cup, use a small, clean glass. Place the glass's edge on the bone at the base of the eye socket, below the lower eyelid. The water or saline solution may help to remove the foreign body from your eye.
Blinking can aid in the removal of small particles of dust or sand from your eyes.
Pull your upper and lower eyelids together. Your lower eyelashes may be able to clean out any foreign object stuck under your upper eyelid.
Putting on sunglasses If your eyes are sensitive to light as a result of scratching, sunglasses will help you relax while you heal.
Avoid rubbing your eyes. Rubbing your eyes may aggravate the scratch.
Nothing should come into contact with your eyes. Fingers, cotton swabs, and other objects will not help remove foreign bodies and may cause further damage to your eye. Even if you believe there is something in your eye, the object that caused the scratch may have vanished.
Wear no contact lenses. Wearing contact lenses will slow the healing process and may result in complications such as contact lens infection.
If you have redness in your eyes, do not use soothing eye drops. If you have a scratchy eye, over-the-counter redness-reducing eye drops can be painful and will not help you heal faster.
Recovery time for an eye scratch:
Your eye doctor can tell you what to expect after your eye exam. Because eyes heal quickly, an eye scratch may heal faster than a wound on your skin. However, every scratch is unique, and there is no way to predict how long an eye scratch will take to heal.
Inquire with your eye doctor about how long you might be in pain, how long you should take any medications he prescribes for you, and whether there are any activities you should avoid while recovering. If your symptoms last longer than expected or worsen, you should contact your doctor to find out what to do next.
