Since 2010 a massive campaign has been undertaken with the intention of reducing the production of plastic or, failing that, recycling it and, although the awareness days have had percentages of improvement, the production of bottles, glasses, plates or bags is still high.

However, the problem of plastic has not been more accentuated in the production of objects but in that at the time of getting rid of them, they end up in a landfill without having previously gone through a recycling process or incineration for it, both wind and rains are responsible for mobilizing this waste and in the least expected way, They end their cycle in the sea or rivers thus causing the environmental problem to be more serious than we ever think.

According to a study carried out by Professor Antonio Serjas in partnership with the Andrés Bello Catholic University, Guyana extension, on a global scale of the year 2022, only 9% of the plastic that is being produced is recycled and, this figure set off the alarms of the environmental sector because, the projection that was estimated at the World Environment Summit of 2019, was that by the end of 2022, plastic recycling was going to exceed 54%. It should be noted that, only 9% was not the only thing that surprised since, when it was known that 79% of the plastic produced ends up in the river or ocean, environmentalists made the decision to create a techno-environmental planning agenda with the intention of developing machines that help facilitate the process of recycling and incineration of plastic and thus, Stop this alarming rise.

Currently plastic is dispersed in Antarctica and Arctic thus causing this material to be easy to find in the deep sea of all corners that make up our planet earth. Because of this, the presence of plastic objects in the ocean has caused marine fauna to be the main affected because, when aquatic animals consume this waste, they get sick and then die, however, plastic is also a killer agent of reefs, corals and all marine plants in the depths because, These objects are causing these species to die as well.

Undoubtedly, plastic is such a harmful agent that, when it is trapped in the ice and layers of it are created on it, they cause these tons to melt and during 2022, it is estimated that Antarctica lost more than 30,000 tons of ice as a result of the massive plastic that reached that area and gradually adhered to the ice. To give us a clearer idea of this, Antarctica lost 15 icebergs in an annual period being this the first time this happens since, in previous years only 3 icebergs had been reached and, in the past the cause of these losses was not caused by plastic but by global warming.

For all the damage that plastic is causing and the low percentage of the recycling project that is being carried out, for this 2023 in the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific Oceans they will install containers called Plastic Soups with the intention of concentrating all plastic and microplastic waste in the same area thus avoiding that, These continue to expand throughout the ocean. In addition to this, environmentalists expect that during the second quarter of the year, a group of scientists will reveal information that they have been investigating with intelligent processors, which would imply that with this project it will be possible to reduce 54% of the plastic that is affecting the marine world.

if plastic is part of our daily lives, we have the opportunity to give it the proper use because, remember that the problem does not lie in these objects but in the due or improper use that we get to give it and, by recycling or taking it to a place where they can process it, we would be contributing to having a healthier world and we would stop the deterioration that we have been unconsciously submerging it by not Recycle plastic.

Have a Nice Day !!!
