Wednesday – I spy with my little eye – Mini contest (32)

in Steem Kids & Parents2 years ago

Hello kids and parents!

It's Wednesday and I am back!

This week I am going to give you the word first and then I want you to take another look at last week's clues.

And the word is ... BIOGRAPHY!

And the clues...

1. It is a 9-letter word
2. It can be mine, yours, or someone else’s
3. It is more than facts
4. You need permission

Ah! Can you see why this is also called a thinking game?
A game that keeps our minds active, yours and mine. Yip! I don't just choose a word.

I have to think about a word, make sure you are going to learn from it, make it interesting, gather information, and then I have to put the clues together so that I don't make it too easy. In other words, I have to think about how I can "trick" you.

I must admit that there were weeks that I thought nobody will guess it right but in the end someone did. We have some clever Steemians on this platform.

Unfortunately this week I got the upper hand. Nobody guessed BIOGRAPHY!

The reason why I choose BIOGRAPHY is that it is so often confused with AUTOBIOGRAPHY.

BIOGRAPHY - This is the life story of someone written by someone else.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY - This is the life story of someone written by that person.

But there is a catch.

One of my favorite books on my bookshelf is "Long walk to freedom" by Nelson Mandela (Madiba), former South African president.

It is classified as an AUTOBIOGRAPHY although it was not written by himself. It was "ghostwritten" by Richard Stengel.

What this means is that Stengel wrote it on behalf of Mr. Mandela.

With no winner for the last contest, the winning prize for this week will be 4 STEEM.

Time for your next game!

The game is exactly like last week;

The game “I spy with my little eye” is sort of a detective game. The “spy” is the person who sees something and the rest of the players must then guess what the spy is seeing.

Of importance, it must be something that you can see and not something you can feel like an emotion.

BUT, “I spy with my little eye” is so much more than just a spy game;

  • It is a thinking game
  • It teaches you how to use your logic and reasoning and
  • It grows your vocabulary

The contest

For today I am going to give you the letter with which the word starts plus 4 points or “clues” which you can take into consideration to figure out what the word can be.

Ready or not… let’s learn, play and win!

I spy with my little eye something that begins with the letter “K”.

1. It is a 12-letter word
2. It is a hyphenated, compound word
3. It would go around neighborhoods performing a duty
4. It is no longer to be seen in cobbled streets

image.png

How to participate?

  • You can reply to this post by posting your word or you can write an article about your word
  • You can only enter once

What is up for grabs?

The first correct answer will take home 4 STEEM this week.

The word and the winner will be announced next week Wednesday therefore make sure you don't send in your answer later than Tuesday 23:59 UTC.

If there is no winner the prize will carry over until there is a winner.

Until next week, keep guessing!

Greetings @patjewell

Answer is word Community-run!!

I have chose "community-run" because it is a hyphenated compound word that fits all the criteria :

It is a 12-letter word.
It is a hyphenated compound word.
It can be associated with performing duties in neighborhoods.
It does not have to be seen in cobbled streets, which could suggest it is a modern or current practice.
"Community-run" suggests a group of individuals or an organization that is responsible for running or managing activities or services in a particular neighborhood or community. This could include initiatives related to education, healthcare, safety, or social services, among others..

Best regards @prabin09

I love the way you put your thinking cap on and analyze the words. That is what this game is all about.(•ิ‿•ิ)
It is a good guess but look again. The word starts with "K"

Although there are lots of possibilities of answers like kerosene lamp, kaleidoscope but I wanted to choose word "knocker-upper."

"Knocker-upper" ( profession) is a compound noun that refers to a person who used to go around neighborhoods in the early morning, tapping on windows with a long stick or rod to wake people up. The profession was prevalent in the 19th and early 20th centuries before alarm clocks became widely available. The word "knocker-upper" is a combination of "knocker" (meaning someone or something that knocks) and "upper" (referring to the early morning, as in "up and at 'em").It is no longer seen in cobbled streets because the profession became obsolete with the widespread availability of alarm clocks.

Thankyou for your clues' K' @patjewell

You can only enter once my friend.
So often we miss the rules. I know, I've also done it before.
Good luck for the next round!

The item you are thinking of might be "knacker's cart".

A long time ago, there were special carts called "knacker's carts" that were used to take away dead horses and other animals. The people who drove these carts were called "knackers" because they bought and got rid of the dead animals. You might have seen these carts in your grandparents' stories or in old movies, but they're not used anymore because we now have better ways of getting rid of dead animals.

It's fun learning about Mandela, his autobiography and Richard Stengel, (whispering) the book's ghostwriter.

I'm laughing so hard at myself right now.

Maybe you had your thinking cup on back to front (•ิ‿•ิ)
Remember to turn it the right way for this week.

Answer is "Milkman's cart"

A milkman's cart was a type of vehicle that was once used to deliver milk to households. It typically consisted of a small, two-wheeled cart that was pulled by a horse or sometimes pushed by a human. The cart would be loaded with bottles or other containers of milk, which would be delivered to homes along a designated route.

The milkman's cart was a common sight in many neighborhoods throughout the first half of the 20th century, particularly in urban areas. However, as home refrigeration became more common and supermarkets began to sell milk, the use of milkman's carts for home delivery declined. Today, milk delivery by cart is still practiced in some areas, but it is much less common than it once was.

Oh wow! What a nice guess! How time has changed (•ิ‿•ิ)
I can still remember how my mom put out the milk bottles with the coupons out the night before. Gone are those days.
Just look again, the word starts with a "K". (•ิ‿•ิ)

That means it's a 'kerosene lamp' that meets all criteria!
