IMG_20240912_074009_264.jpg Early morning am ready to leave for a trip

I have gone on an interesting journey with my boss to Port Harcourt for a satelite installation contract. The whole trip was quite eventful; I'd love sharing with you all the experiences thereof.

Morning activities

We started off pretty early in the morning and left on good time. Well, due to several congestions along the road caused by big trucks on the road, we had to spend more time on the road. The straightforward journey now turned to be a three-hour adventure. After all the delays, we arrived at Port Harcourt filled with feelings of relief and excitement.

We went straight to my aunt's compound, where we were going to put up during the contract period. My aunt welcomed us very well; it was good getting to familiar ground. It was just the first day there, so we chose to go easy, rest, and get ourselves prepared for work.

Knowing we were on our way coming, my aunt prepared a hearty breakfast, and that was just a perfect start to the day. The fried plantains were mouth-watering, delicious, and gave us the energy we needed after the long journey.

Shortly afterward, we went for a morning stroll around the locality. Refreshing it was, stretching our legs and getting a feel of the place. The streets bustled with activity as people pursued their various daily routines. We went down to a little marketplace and bought some fresh fruits that we could have later in the day.

Afternoon activities

As lunchtime approached later in the day, we wanted more of the neighborhood. Very hungry, I ordered from one of the vendors with a plate of rice for a snack, and my boss with some order of soup. Our lunch cost about 6000 naira which is 15 steem. Simple fare to be sure, but substantial-good excuse to sit around for half an hour or so eating local fare.

Afternoon, after lunch, went to a nearby park, quite secluded from the world and full of shade to kill just the midday heat; then we sat over there on a bench and breathed some cool air amidst children who were playing. Really nice off from all those metropolitan hustle-bustle noises.

Evening activities

She gave us a special meal of afang soup in the evening, one of my favorite dishes. This was a rich and flavorful soup, reminding me of comfort back at home. It was also a great way to round up the day.The evening was spent talking with one another.

After dinner, we decided to take a short walk around the compound. Cool and pleasant it was, and really helps a guy unwind from labors of the day. Presently, we were sharing plans for the following day amidst stories of what each had gone through in journeys past.

With the star-studded night skies outside in open space as if not enough, with some palm wine we were just drinking and felt laid back.

These were accompanied by the soft rustling of leaves. This would just be the perfect end to a busy day, after a long, gruesome day. That is the best way to wind down and slide into the night. The cool refreshing drink just made us relax and savor the moment. Indeed, this was how we had ended our first day in Port Harcourt. Although that day was well utilized, even though we had not started anything concerning the contract, we slept and ate very well with my aunt, and we would dive into our work the following day, but for now, we were content to rest and recharge.

The journey I had with my boss from uyo to Port Harcourt was not just about going to do our work; it was also about experiencing the journey, the food, and the company from my aunty. This journey we had really reminded me of the importance of taking time our to enjoy the little things around us, even when you’re on a business trip. I'm waiting to see how the next day will goes, when we start working and the experiences they will bring.
