My sincere appreciation goes to our beloved tutor, @udyliciouz. You have dedicated your time and energy to make sure that knowledge is passed on, and we really appreciate you for that. Technology continues to evolve, and mankind continues to cause harm to the environment without even knowing it; these days, so many of mankind's activities affect the environment negatively.

Our activities affect the environment, and the environment in one way or another has an effect on our activities as well. We don't decide where certain crops can be planted; our environment and land decide that.

State some ways in which human activities influence the physical environment.

There are so many ways in which human activities have affected our physical environment; our activities mostly affect the environment negatively.

  • Deforestation: Humans continue to cut down trees without planting new ones; they do it for the production of timber, the production of books, and the construction of roads. Without trees, we are exposed to the wind.

  • Dumping of Refuse in the Rivers and Oceans: Both companies and individuals have formed a habit of dumping refuse in bodies of water close to them; sometimes this refuse contains chemicals that, in turn, hurt the lives of animals in the bodies of water. The refuse sometimes causes flooding.

  • Farming: We clear the bushes by cutting down trees to plant our crops, thereby replacing natural vegetation with our food crops or cash crops.

State some ways in which the physical environment influences our activities.

Our activities influence our environment, and in turn, the environment influences some of our activities.

  • Certain crops that require little amount of rain, such as maize, okra, soyabean, wheat, etc., are mostly cultivated in the north, where there's little amount of rainfall. While some crops that require a high amount of rainfall are cultivated in the rainforest for a better yield,

  • The topography of the soil determined how a house is built.

  • Water flow channels are also considered before a house or a road is constructed.

  • The soil is also considered before dams are constructed.

describes a settlement.

A settlement can simply be defined as a location where people live. A settlement can either be rural or urban, but what really matters is that there are people living there, and that's what makes it a settlement.

List and explain two types of settlement.

The two types of settlements include;

  • Rural Settlement: This is referred to as an underdeveloped settlement, often said to be a village. The major occupations of people who live in rural settlements include farming, fishing, and hunting.

  • Urban Settlement: On the other hand, urban settlements are referred to as "developed towns," often said to be "cities." In urban settlements, you can find multistory buildings, flats, estates, cars, and a lot of other things that show the development and adaptation of technology.
