한 줄 글쓰기가 어렵다. 한 줄은 커녕 첫 글자를 어떤 단어로 선택하고 써야할지에 대해 머리통을 붙잡기를 꽤 오래 했었다. 지금도 그렇지만. 그때 기억을 하면 오늘도 아찔하다. 지금 생각해보니, 그때 아마 잘 보이려고 하는 마음이 있었던 것 같다. 잘나지도 않았으면서 잘보이려하니 어려울 수 밖에.

지금의 마음은 그때와 다르다. 잘난체가 아니라 잘해보고 싶은 마음이 크다. 내가 왜 무엇을 하고자 하는지, 나에 대해서 그때보다 조금 더 나를 알았다고나 할까.

며칠 전에, 읽었던 글이 크게 와닿아 남겨본다. 글의 주인공은 한번도 들어보지 않은 맥아더상을 수상한 타네하시 코츠이다. 수상한 책은 세상과 나 _{Between the World and Me}라 한다.

The challenge of writing is to see your horribleness on page.
To see your terribleness and then go to bed.

And wake up the next day, and take that horribleness and that terribleness, and refine it, and make it not so terrible and not so horrible.
And then to go to bed again.

And come next day, and refine it a little bit more, and make it not so bad.
And then to go to bed the next day.

And do it again, and make it maybe average.
And then one more time, if you're lucky, maybe you get to good.

And if you've done that, that a success.
