SLC S22W6 Interpretation of Weather Radar Images

Having a proactive knowledge of weather condition is important for our daily activities because it comes with all-round safety. For the purpose of this week's learning challenge, I will be using WEAWOW app which is one of the forecast applications for interpretation of weather radar images in my location.

Below are screenshot from the forecast application ( weawow) which I took yesterday; Wednesday 22 January 2025 from 2:57pm. While studying weather and trying to understand the application, I spent time till 4:30 pm. I noticed that the current weather condition matched reality.

Using the meteorological variables, I will interpret what I saw while exploring through the forecast application.

VARIABLES

Precipitation: from the forecast, there was absent of precipitation which matches reality. No single amount of water in form of hail, rain or snow dropped to the earth surface during the hours I checked and even in hours to come.

I proceeded by clicking on the play button to see if there would likely be precipitation in few hours but it played till Tuesday 28 January where I found change in the weather in south- south and East part of Nigeria. Although, there was no sign of precipitation in my location, it was still at 0mm.

Temperature: In reality, it was a sunny afternoon which means that there is hotter heat in the air and the current temperature at that time was high. Since temperature moves from colder which is the purple color code to hotter which is the red color code, my observation of temperature was 35.8⁰c. This was very hot where we have the red color code.

Pressure: from my observation of the the atmospheric pressure, the force that was applied on the surface area by wind at that time was 1008hPa.

Additional Points

I proceeded to check the amount of water vapor found in the air, the movement of air ( wind) and also how cloudy the sky was.

A: The humidity was just 10%
B: The wind was 8km/h ( the wind direction is going to the left ( West) but move a little upwards ( North) in Lafia ( a state in Nigeria) where I used the lemon color arrow.

In order to compare the cloudiness, I checked both low and high clouds at that time.
Both gave me a clear sky in my location.

In my opinion, I think weather forecast applications are accurate. While using weawow app, the current weather condition on the app was exactly the way it was in reality so I truly believe in its accuracy.

This means that there won’t be rain fall at night, the temperature will be hot but not too high compared to what we experienced the previous day at noon.
