Steemians - Google on Monday (22/1/2018) today displays the doodle figure of someone who is in the middle of black and white film clipping. Each frame in the thread that forms the name "Google" has a short animation.

The figure is Sergei Eisenstein. Born exactly 120 years ago on January 22, 1898 in the Soviet Union, Eisenstein was an active film director in the early decades of the 20th century.

The films directed by Eisenstein include Batleship Potemkin, Strike, and The General Line.

In the world of cinema, Eisenstein is known as a pioneer of montage techniques, in which a series of short-shot shots are arranged to form an intact sequence to condense space, time, and information, while continuing a certain impression.

One example of the application of the famous montage technique by Eisenstein is the Odessa Step scene in the silent film Battleship Potemkin.

In scenes made for the purposes of the propaganda, Russian Tsaris soldiers portrayed a mass of protesters who were made up partly of women and children.

The shot pieces of the invading soldiers were joined by the protesters who tried to get down the stairs so that the audience felt the urgent impression of the protesters.

Coupled with a jukstaposisi like a mother holding her injured son confronted with soldiers holding bayonets, the audience gets the impression that the Tsaris soldiers are cruel, in accordance with the function of the film as a means of Soviet propaganda at the time.

"His films (Eisenstein) are also revolutionary in other respects, that is, he often describes the struggle of the workers against the ruling class," Google said in a description on the doodle page.

However, the scene Odessa Step Scene in the film Battleship Potemkin is still famous, then worldwide and affect other filmmakers so that began to do editing with a montage style like Eisenstein.

The films inspired by this technique include The Godfather, Requiem for a Dream, and The Untouchables. Eisenstein died on February 11, 1948 in Moscow, Russia.

Google doodle created by google as a reminder and appreciation for the famous figures of various professions such as: researchers, inventors, heroes and famous artists.
