Exploring Masculinity - Episode 1
The Introduction of our new series about men. Exploring Masculinity
Men don't talk, right? We just don't. We lack the capacity to open up and talk about natural things from a very young age because it's been ingrained in us from society to disconnect from our emotions. Well, thankfully, Alex and I are here to throw a spanner in the works. We're here to say it's okay to not be okay, and what you may be feeling is natural for so many other men. We want to talk about many hot topics, from current events in the newspapers to things that go through our minds but we don't really voice them. Parenting for men and a wide variety of topics you just don't hear anywhere else. Stay tuned.
We talk about quite a range of issues in this episode, from multi-gendered sports to Politics and The Roal Family (we're a British pair; anyone for Tennis?). Please stop by and have a listen, and if you have any questions, please send them in to [email protected] and we'll be happy and try our best to answer them for you!
Well done. "Women are more carring then men..." I agree not true. As humans this is our struggle...taking people on a person to person basis.
Thanks! :)
The thing about men not talking... it is hard for men to be open and vulnerable because of the way society responds. To open up, it invites criticism. Sometimes that can really hurt when someone insults a weakness you are opening up about. As a man, I can react by playing the victim and defend my weakness, but society doesn't usually let me get away with that, and therefore I feel like I am not good at it. Someone always points out someone else who has it worse than me, so I can never justify my own feelings to them. People say "Buck up", or "Suck it up". If it is a woman, they are more likely to say "There, there, you poor thing, I know exactly how you feel." It gets to the point where I often feel embarrassed if people start flipping their response from tough love into coddling reassurance. I think you just have to be careful how much information you reveal, and who you share it with. I probably have secrets I will go to the grave with because it just makes life easier for me and everyone around me.
I think it wholly depends on who your friends are and who you open up to!
