As I write, I suffer from an addiction so know that this knowledge comes from a place of experience and not books.

Addiction is a negative habit we do every single day and it consumes a part of our lives and slowly ecompasses other aspects of our lives and breaks it down slowly before our eyes and whilst we are so absorbed in it, we can’t see it happening.

Breaking free from an addiction is like breaking a part of your soul, the process hurts a lot, because it is a mind game you are playing. It is a psychological warfare you are playing with yourself and the more harder it is, the bigger the benefit.

If you are struggling with an addiction and want to break free but can’t, I will share some words of my own to help you.

the harder it is to get over an addiction, the more stronger you become.

You develop something called discipline, which is a sought after life skill which enhances the quality of your life by the thousands. You develop confidence like never before and self esteem which reaches the sky. All because you had deprived yourself the addiction that had become a part of your soul, taken place as a false human instinct.

You need to realise that whatever you are going through can be stopped, but it requires 2 things, patience and sheer fucking will. Reality is full of struggles and happiness is never achieved by giving into what is easy, it’s always attained by giving in to what is hard, because in the end happiness feels much more natural than superficial.

My addiction is food. I used to be at a weight of 300 pounds but was able to lose 105 of that. Slowly I gained half of it back. Food is my downfall and can be a great comfort. I'll put more effort next time, but I'm not finding any good motivation at the moment.

Someone told me once that the longer you wait for motivation the more you will have to wait.

I’ve tried waiting for motivation and it doesn’t come, this whole idea that motivation will help succeed my goal is BS in my opinion.

Sometimes what we have to do is just get started, take the first step and be really hard on yourself and hope that the next step becomes easier and clearer.

If you can just start today, take small step that’s all you have to do 😊.

Quite right! I have to admit to trying to give up smoking about 20 times. Eventually I succeeded with the help of an electronic cigarette (to get off the nicotine but still have the habit of hand-to-mouth) and then got off that (which was easier now the nicotine was out of my system).

It still took sheer bloody-mindedness though and even years down the track you sill get the occasional craving.

Exactly, it’s war in your mind against yourself that you gotta beat. It’s fucking crazy how sometimes you have sleepless nights because of that.
