Is it Too Late To Get Back Into Shape?
So, is it too late to get back in shape? The short answer is NO… absolutely not!
It’s never too late to get back in shape, but, in order to do that, you’ll need 3 key ingredients. Without these 3 essential ingredients, your realistic chances of long term success are right up there with hitting the lottery.
#1 – your doctor has ok’d you to perform light exercise. If your doctor has advised against light exercise, you’re “fubar” right from the get-go. Yikes!
#2 – you have 1 hour per day. It’s that simple. If you can’t free up just 1 hour per day to work on your thoughts and your body, then… well, I hate to say it, but you need a different job, my friend.
#3 – an open mind. Think about it… your mental health and physical well being are primarily a result of your current lifestyle. That makes sense, right? Stay with me here… if you are not open to subtle lifestyle changes, then you will continue to do what you’ve always done, and you will eventually wind up with results that you’ve always gotten.

So herein lies the problem When it comes to your health… is it too late to get back in shape?
Most of us go through life blindly, giving very little thought to our own state of mental and physical health until there’s a sign of a problem which, in certain instances, it may be too late to do anything about. let’s just be honest with each other here.
We pay monthly recurring fees for our cell phone, our internet, our cable tv, our ad free music listening, and everything else under the sun, am I right? I mean, we’re literally monthly fee’d to death!
So where in that equation are your monthly contributions to your-self? To making sure that your body and brain are optimized for maximum effectiveness? Don’t you get upset when your cell phone locks up and freezes up? When your Cable goes out or gets fuzzy during your favorite TV show? Don’t you pay exorbitant fees to ensure there are no interruptions in your utilities?
My point is, the average person spends their time… to make money… to pay on a regular basis for everything under the sun that they perceive will make their lives more convenient, thus leading to a higher level of perceived happiness which, in the end, is what we all want. All we want is to FEEL HAPPY! We do this through family, friends vacations and a good-looking healthy body…
What I am suggesting here, is that if you’re going to be successful at getting back in shape at any age, you must be able to squeeze into your life, one more “utility.” Call it, the SELF utility. You have cable, gas, water, garbage, heating and cooling, now simply add one additional line item that is labeled in all caps S-E-L-F. Your “SELF” utility. And what does it cost? It should cost 1 hour per day. One 24th of your time. That’s it. A small price to pay when you consider sleeping takes up roughly 1/3 of your life and your job roughly another 3rd.
So what goes into this mysterious one hour window do you suppose? Well that’s a pretty simple equation. There are 3 parts to my “HAPPINESS EQUATION”…
Part #1 of the happiness equation – healthy nutrition
Discovering why certain foods are addictive or destructive, why they make you tired and sap you of your energy, and coming clear on healthier food choices is vital to making sure your brain and body have all they need to operate at maximum efficiency, able to fight sickness, obesity and disease, especially heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Remember, your brain perceives a healthy body as a happy body.
Part #2 of the happiness equation – exercise or physical activity
Keep in mind your heart is a muscle. You must intentionally place light stressors on all of your major muscle groups on a regular basis in order to gain or maintain strength, endurance and stamina, not to mention balance and protecting your bones… BONE! Without these stressors and regular stimulation, your muscle systems weaken and wither away, causing undue stress, disease and even death.
And finally, part #3 of the happiness equation- your brain
The intentionally clearing out of negative thoughts and emotions, yes… that’s right… and planting seeds in your mind for more positive thoughts and emotions to grow. In other words, meditation, positive thinking and the like.
Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to surround yourself with like-minded individuals who share your interests in getting back into shape.
