Making a change

A lot of people ask how I got from point A:

To point B:

And to be quite honest with you, I get a little stumped for an answer. Not because I don't want to help people, I guess just more that I've been doing it for so long I don't think about it? I'm going to do my best to make a list, and hopefully it will help you if you are looking for a change.

1.) I had to be ready to make a change. I thought the way I was eating that I was happy. But in reality I had no motivation or energy to get up and do anything.
2.)Listening to when my body was full. Growing up (especially at family functions) I was taught if you weren't bursting at the seams, you didn't get enough to eat. I kept that mentality going into adulthood, even more so once I got pregnant with my son (who I gained 100 pounds with)
3.) Cook at home. We had got in a bad habit of eating out at least five times a week. I looked up a lot of recipes to make from scratch. Not only did we save money, the quality and the taste couldn't be beat!
4.) Make small changes. Before I would try and eliminate everything at once. I found that when I did that and got the opportunity to eat it, I would binge eat whatever it was. This time I made small, subtle changes. You wouldn't think it, but even the smallest change can make you feel a world of difference!
5.) Keep an open mind. I made it a challenge to myself to eliminate some of the fake stuff in my diet and replace it with a healthier version. I knew it wasn't going to taste the same, so went in with it open minded. The more I experimented with it, the more I found it to be even tastier then the original food I once loved.
6.) Learning to listen to my body after I ate something: did it leave me feeling bloated, stomach hurting, and tired? Or did it leave me feeling light and energized, ready to take on any task? Once I learned the difference it became pretty easy to eliminate (dairy and grains were my two biggest ones)
7.) Being patient with myself. There were a lot of times I got frustrated, thinking I can't do this. When my husband wasn't here to pep talk me, as silly as it sounds, I would pep talk myself in the mirror, reminding myself why I was doing this.
8.)Being consistent with changes I wouldn't just eliminate something for a week then go back to eating it.
Once I got consistent with changes it was like the weight just melted off. But as crazy as it sounds, this journey became much more than just losing weight for me. I don't really get sick anymore, and when I do, it really is just minor and I can bounce back within a couple of days. My skin is much clearer, and while before when my monthly cycle would hit, I would be in excruciating pain, now I can barely notice any pain (just to name a few). The greatest gift? I get to get up and be active with my kids, and not feel (totally) exhausted. Believe me they are not the healthiest eaters (although they have learned to like a few things I eat). I get to pass this knowledge on to them: You don't just have to eat whatever to survive. You can eat to thrive. That food can truly be the best medicine.

Thank you so much for reading guys. I truly hope it can help someone reading as it helped me.

Great job! I'm currently losing as well, and have been doing so for some time so I can't really remember when I started either. For me it was to stop eating emotionally and I cut out sugar. It's funny how your tastes honestly change so what you used to crave you not only don't any longer but when you try it out of curiosity you think, "Um, I don't even like this, too sweet!" Good job and hope I can be as successful at it as you have been. :) Following now, too.

Thank you for taking time to read!
And yes!! I know it would have been awhile since having sweets and I'd think to myself, "what the heck? I'll have some as a treat!" So then I'd try it and almost gag. Lol!
Just keep going and you will be, you'll have to keep me updated :)

This is great motivation for me! Thank you for sharing. I’m not really wanting to lose much weight, but I do want to make healthy choices, feel energized, and not eat until I feel like I can’t move (which I am very guilty of). I am definitely going to start listening to my body more.

Aww, I am so glad to help motivate you, thank you so much for reading! It's so easy to let that feeling be the "norm", but once you learn to get used to the light, energized feeling there's almost no going back! I think a lot of people may think I still eat this way to "diet" but honestly I just love the way it makes me feel. Hope you love the feeling as well! :)

Great transformation! Its hard to make lasting changes! Glad you were able to make it a lifestyle change!!

Thank you! That was my goal when I started, to make it into a lifestyle change! :) It took me two years to accomplish, there was some trial and error, but once I found what worked for me the willpower just kind of took hold, and it became easy for me. Thanks for reading my story! Much appreciated! 💜

Your transformation just blows me away every time I see those “before” photos! You are such an inspiration and I’m so glad that you feel awesome and looking smokin hot is just a bonus! :) I love the way you wrote this and it really makes me want to make some changes myself. Now if I weren’t so damn good at making excuses... ;) Love you Ash!

"Smokin' hot". Hehe that gave me a good chuckle. 😊
They always make me so emotional, not just because of the weight difference, because I just looked so sad. It's been such an emotional, amazing, educational journey! I have to thank you along with all our other family for supporting me, it means the world to me 💜
And like I said, the smallest change can make a world of difference! You have to find what works for you. You can do it Mel! It can at times be challenging but so rewarding.
Love you lots 💜💜

You can definitely see not only the physical change, but your change in attitude! I can relate to that all too well after all of this weight-gain. I hate being in photos because I'm embarrassed and it lowers my self-esteem even more when I see myself in them. You have a happy, radiant and positive glow and I am so happy that you've had the willpower and the self-discipline to make this journey! <3

Mel- you are gorgeous no matter what! I mean it! I remember that feeling, but here's something to offer you that I didn't really hear from anyone (or didn't choose to hear):
Make it about the way you feel. Once that good feeling comes the willpower just kind of grabs hold and takes place. I truly believe anyone can do it.

Wow, you are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing your journey. You are awesome! Following, upvoted and resteemed.

Aw, so glad you enjoyed!
Thank you so much for reading! 💜

What a great change, you look hot now! :D
You need a lot of discipline and hard work to change, but once you stop with the excuses you are on a good path towards success.
Thanks for sharing your story. Upvoted.

Thanks @spiritualmax!! :D
Yes, I couldn't agree more with you.
I was to the point I was so tired of feeling bad. Anytime I made a change I would feel even better each time, which was my motivation to keep me going.
Thanks for reading!

Well done, thank you for sharing 😀

Thank you, and thanks for reading!
I checked out your blog, lots of good stuff!! Going to start following you! 😊

WOW! Good for you! Nice thoughts!
