Why Every Patient is Different - A new problem that needs solvingsteemCreated with Sketch.

How do you treat...?

What is the best technique or approach for...?

My friend said ... worked for them, will it work for me too?

These are common questions I get asked on a daily basis from patients and practitioners alike. However the answer isn't always what they expect.

No treatment is ever the same, even for the same diagnosis. Some may be similar to others but each individual has their own element of uniqueness that got them injured in the first place and determines their path of recovery. So it doesn't make sense to have a 1 size fits all approach.

Even though 5 patients have the exact same medical diagnosis (e.g. Hamstring strain) they will each behave differently around that diagnosis. Why? Because of how their body is put together, their lifestyle, opinions, habits and behaviours, exercise, and even their level of body composition will influence how one moves around their diagnosis. So treating people the same, even though it’s the same medical diagnosis is not really a good thing to do.

Each patient is a new problem that needs solving. Work through your assessment, treat what you find and not what you assume.
