my favorite plant in the world, euphorbia milii

I present the flowers of euphorbia milii, also know as crown of thorns.

Native to Madagascar, these are ancient plants, from a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth. With stems covered in thorns, it is very drought resistant. The leaves will all fall off, and the stem can remain dormant for a very long time. Awakening with rain fall and flourishing again. The flowers illustrate an evolutionary breakthrough for plants, sexual reproduction through flowers. Stems grow from the thorny stalk, and begin growing two little green leaves opposite of each other. These tiny leaves begin to change colors into a vibrant pink, and the sex organs in the middle develop, and begin to produce nectar.
