Day 115: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: mason jar
Please welcome the newest freewriters!! Visit, comment and vote on their posts. We all love that, right?
@mysecondself01
@hope777
@trashie-beeaaa
Some of the freewriters love to put their fellow writers into their stories. @mr-neil started one of those stories and here are the first 7 parts in one post. Our sweet and supportive freewriter @wandrnrose7 has agreed to take on a dangerous role in this story to save us all. Check out what has happened so far
Help Wanted
You might have noticed that at least one person comes to read your freewrite - and leaves you a link for the newest prompt. In the beginning, I used to do that and then, I needed help and a wonderful handful of freewriters answered my cry for help.
Our group has grown and many days, we have close to forty wonderful and amazing freewriters molding the daily prompt into all kinds of stories. It is so much fun to read how many different tales the same prompt can inspire.
That said, reading 40 posts takes a lot of time - even 40 short ones.
This is where you come in. Please consider to join the freewrite encouragers.
All you need to do is this
- pick a day or two on this spreadsheet
- co-ordinate with the other encouragers for that day how you want to divide the visits
- visit the freewriters
- read the post
- make a comment about their freewrite
- Leave a link to the newest prompt
Your help is very much appreciated!!!
Here is the link to the spreadsheet - just add your name...
Prompt: mason jar
- Set your timer for 5 minutes
- Start writing
- Use the hashtag #freewrite
- Publish your piece (include a link to this post if you wish)
Copy and paste your URL into the comment section of the prompt post.
- Or, if you don't want to publish your freewrite, just copy and paste as a comment under the prompt post.
If you don't know what a freewrite is, here is a link to the introduction post.
Here is @snooks excellent tutorial on how to join our freewrite adventure
And @improv's input:
Two things I do a little differently. I just type "timer" into google and it pops up a 5-minute timer. I also type directly into steemit. I also rarely use a photo, don't I? So that's three things.
Please read, comment and vote (if you have voting power) on each others freewrites as much as you can. Especially if you are new to the platform, you will be surprised how many friendships are formed by reading and commenting on each other's work!

Bandwidth Problems
I know that many of you are very new to the platform and your wallets are pretty empty. Believe me, we all started there!! Here is an excellent article which explains what bandwidth is and why you might have a hard time logging in some days - or posting. Thank you @jrswab for this explanation
There are many contests on Steemit. From art to music to writing and everything in between. Enter as many as you can!! And take advantage of the free money people give away I listed in the money section below.
Can one of the newer Steemians please let us know if this is still a problem?
Great Opportunity
This is a great opportunity for those of you who are more serious about your writing and are ready to take it to the next place. The Isle of Write just announced their new project. SBD can be won and you can even make it into a print edition. Read the details here.
An update on how to enter your work.
Writing help
A free app: Grammarly. A lot of us are not native English speakers and I am finding it a helpful app. It will underline spelling and grammar mistakes. Just remember that is is not always right -especially if you use complex sentence structures. Here is the link
Remember The Most Dangerous Writing App. You set the time - 5 min - and start typing. Don’t stop!!! It will destroy what you wrote if you stop for more than 3 seconds - and backspace does not count as writing on the app. If you are prone to stop and think - this app forces you to keep going. You can make corrections after the 5 minutes are over.
A timer. Egg timer is a free tool you can use on your desktop to set a time. This is useful for our freewrites or if you want to work in blocks of time and then take a break. Here is the link
Our fellow freewriter @arbitrarykitten has a business here on Steemit. Several editors are offering to edit and format your post for a small fee. Check out their intro post
Our discord channel Isle of Write has workshop rooms for fiction, non-fiction, and poetry where some of the experienced writers might be able to give some tips. Join with this link https://discord.gg/zfXNRnK
If you are ready to get serious about improving your understanding of the English language check out @majes.tytyty blog. He has lots of useful information to understand words and their roots better. If you have questions or need help, leave a comment on his blog.
Check out @ghasemkiani if English is not your first language. He explains many idioms. Often to use those correctly is the biggest struggle when using a foreign language. He uses #idioms-tutorial
If you know of other helpful tools or people, please share with us!
Money
There are several people who offer SBD for free on this platform! How great is that!!
Here are a few
@fisheggs - follow this account and you get upvotes at random times.
@sydesjokes - he rewards his followers with SBD for any kind of interaction with him- comment, vote, resteem.
@craigcryptoking- he does a giveaway a few times a week. All you have to do is to be the first, or fourth or eight commenter. And he added a few more.
@danielsaori - he does a comment contest. A new challenge every week.
@rexusmo - I think a few of you have started to leave links to your post. Every day, he has a cheering up post. You leave a link to a post you are proud off and you might get a reward. Keep trying!!

I would love to help reading other freewrites, only my vote is still worthless, so I don't know...
Yeah, no vote is worthless. For us minnows they may be worth only a cent or two, but they matter to those who are writing. It means someone saw it, and saw value in it, even if they couldn't give as much as they might want to. Every fortune starts with a penny ;)
Well said! We love all the feedback and so glad for each of your input!
Between a vote and a thoughtful comment I prefer one million times the comment!
We're here to create a community with a heart and a soul. That's the best gift someone can have, to be part of something beautiful.
^^Exactly!^^
Definitely second both of these sentiments @f3nix and @mikesthoughts ... don't feel useless @marie-jay, your interaction with the community is what counts... keep making friends and you'll get there in the end.. it takes times <3 I'm just learning myself!
The freewrite community we have here is definitely a great place to start making connections!
Enjoy! :)
With love
Hart Floe

The fact that you care, that you want to participate is never worthless! The upvotes are nice, and are always appreciated, but it's the comments that make what we do truly worthwhile. Knowing that someone took the time to read what we've written, to think on it, and to reply with how it made them think or feel is the true treasure of what so many here in this freewriting group want to give to Steemit. People ask questions, share jokes and personal experiences and begin to know each other and form friendships. It's a fantastic feeling and one that I hope that you'll join in and share with us! Plus, we have tons of fun together and who wants to miss out on that party?
Beautifully said @brisby!
The vote is not important. I go and vote for everyone anyways and we are thinking of more ways to be able to give better votes. The important part is that people have at least one reader, a comment about their work and the next link. Even the link secondary to making sure that everyone gets a visit.
Right now, nobody is signed up for Tuesday. If you were to choose Tuesday, you are visiting the writers who left their url at the Monday prompt and leave the link to the Tuesday prompt.
We would love to have you!! And if it is too much to read all the posts, just let me know how far you got.
Oh, Tuesday's taken, now, but still I put up my name for Monday... the more comments, the more feedback for the author.
Yes!! and you and Marco can work out that you take half each. Ideally, we have several people for each day so it doesn't become overwhelming!
@marie-jay I suggest you put an account picture and a short description of yourself..let us know more about you! ;-)
Introducing the Bananish Jar!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@omra-sky/the-bananish-jar-a-freewrite
That's the way!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@improv/mason-jar-5minutefreewrite
I signed up on the chart for Tuesdays. I started this freewriting thing as an experiment, but it's had such wonderful effects on me. It clears my head, calms me and excites me at the same time. AAand it gets my juices flowing. I just love it.
So, all I do is check the links in the comments for that day, or what? I'm still kinda new to this freewriting community, so I don't know...:D Any help is appreciated.
Also, here's my freewrite for today: https://steemit.com/freewrite/@honeydue/a-jar-5-minute-freewrite.
Yes. If you take Tuesday, you would go to the Monday prompt after the new prompt is published and start reading and commenting and leaving a prompt on each writer's post. Don't worry if you don't get to all of them. Hopefully, we will get some more takers and you can always tell me how far you got and I deliver the prompt to the rest.
Are you on discord?
Thank you for the clarification, Marianne!
I am, and I shall join your channel tomorrow :D
Only if you want to. But you can Dm me if you have any questions or to let me know how far you got and where to take over :)
Or you can leave me a message under a prompt...
Oh, I do want to, it's just that when I replied, it was really late here and I thought it best to postpone joining the Discord channel, 'cause then I'd never get to bed :D
Sure thing, thank you

Another day, another free write :) Looking forward to what some of you have written today!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@mikesthoughts/five-minute-free-write-mason-jar
Meaningful post brother !!
Thank You for sharing this on Steemit !
You spammers are so funny!
here is my single prompt post I wrote in the wee hours of the night in response to @deaconlee leaving me in a dead zombie village.
I hope you have a chuckle or three!
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@snook/ski-part-3-weekend-single-prompt
Here is my freewrite for today, Smoothies & Smooth Talk.
Currently, I do have issues with bandwidth every now and then again - so I cannot volunteer as of yet.
Having said that, for now, I just browse some freewrites on my own will :)
P.S. 95% of the times, by the time someone gets to message me about a new freewrite, I would have already written about it. If I would be tagged in the posts, Gina would tell me immediately when they're out (although I don't seem to be in any tagging list)
I am so sorry! I must have copied a name list of an older prompt. Going to do one straight from my spreadsheet tomorrow and you are on that for sure :)
Don't worry too much about it ;) I keep checking your page 7.8 times a day (on average) to make sure I don't miss a prompt!
here's our entry dear @mariannewest 👶😘❤️❤️❤️
