I grew up in a family with 10 kids total (me included) and my mother wasn't fond of cooking either. As we grew up my mother taught us to cook and read recipes then as soon as we were old enough we had a rotation where each of us had to cook dinner once each week. To this day my mom won't eat tomato spaghetti sauce because it was so easy and economical that we children would choose it often for what we would make.
