RE: Muscadines. Plant them this year for a lifetime of food.

This is very informative. I have been wanting to grow Muscadines for many years. I can still taste the delicious Muscadine Meade I tried a few years ago, home-brewed by a friend. It was some of the best wine I've EVER had... We are in Zone 6, but I think if I grow them in front of the house and mulch them well like you said we might be able to grow them. Also- wow- your list of other foraging posts- we have a LOT in common!!

yes, there is a very good chance you can grow them if you keep them mulched. If I remember correctly, the Carlos variety can with stand down to 10 degrees. Keep in mind, that means if you can keep the roots from going down below 10 degrees they will come back next year. If you know how deep the frost layer goes, pile on enough mulch to raise the bed level higher than that is there is a really good chance it will work.

Thank you! That is very helpful advice! It does err, get down below 0 here.... But I might try that variety...

You are very welcome
