Power smoothie – a sustainable, extra healthy way to start your day!

Well to tell you the truth, I can’t say I am a smoothies’ person. I prefer to eat the ingredients than drink them; most of the times. Yesterday we tried this smoothie at home, as a new combination which turned out to be amazing, that’s why I want to share this with you!

Ingredients: 1tsp Ceylon cinnamon (powder), 1 small cube of ginger root, 1 small cube of turmeric root, 20 sea-buckthorn berries, 20 goji berries, 3 dried figs and 1 plum (instead of sugar), pepper, 1 orange peeled and cut into pieces, 4 tangerines peeled, 1 banana peeled and cut, 1 green apple well washed on the outside but not peeled – you can also leave the seeds, 4 ice cubes, juice (I used kombucha tea as we cultivate it at home; you may use orange juice, other kinds of tea and water) to cover the fruits

Just an extra info in case you are interested: Sea-buckthorn or hippophae is very rich in vitamins and extremely healthy. The myth says that the horses of Alexander the Great used to eat this throughout his quests; this is why the horses and thus he, were so powerful.

Also, goji berries are considered a super-food; in China it has been used for ages in traditional medicine.

Pepper is used to help your body absorb the good qualities of the ingredients.

Cinnamon (used in combination with honey) is a natural medicine for house treatment of the respiratory system. My advice is to use the Ceylon cinnamon as I have read is the best and less processed.

Ginger and turmeric are also used in traditional medicine and contain vitamins and proteins.

The above mentioned ingredients make enough smoothie for two persons. You put all the ingredients in the blender and mix for 1’.

The texture is creamy and spicy. Turmeric will take you off.

I have to confess that this type of cocktails are highly recommended for people who want to lead a healthy lifestyle, ideal to have breakfast, and as always accompanied by exercise.
