Somewhat random factoid: my own home language is Afrikaans, which is a sort of creole/dialect descended from Dutch, spoken in South Africa. And in Afrikaans, a carnation is known as an angelier. Similar to the Dutch word then, but not identical. And that's actually unusual, because the two languages have an almost identical vocabulary; the spelling and grammar differs quite a bit though. :-)
Angelier is also a beautiful name for the flower :)
