#Reimagining your Fitness Quotient everyday
My discovery on weights and cross fitness has been relatively recent, maybe a bit over a year. Before that I used to follow a lot of You Tube icons for workouts. But choosing the right regime can be challenging especially if you don’t know where to start!
I like to think I am fairly self-motivated when it comes to fitness. Of course I have my cheat days and lazy Mondays but a little voice is constantly at the back of my head the days I miss the workouts out of laziness. All of us sometimes need a little nudge once in a while.
Here are my tips if you are starting to think of fitness not as a means to lose weight or get into that LBD, but wanting to be fitter than before.
Choose the Routine for your Body:
Whether online or offline, none of us are starved for choices. Well-toned gym bodies promise you the elixir of life as long as you click Like button on social media. Pick someone you think complements your lifestyle. If you are starting out, pick up a beginner’s session. Don’t be too quick to rush into heavy workouts. They could injure you
Pick your Coach well:
It is always advisable to go with a Coach who understands where you are fitness wise and does not create a one size fits all approach. Today many gym houses rely on mass routines that may suit some and stress others. Ask around for recommendations with your peers. It helps to discuss your fears and previous history of ailments with your Coach so that is taken into consideration when your routine is charted
Prepare for Injuries:
They do eventually happen. I always used to fear them, but one has to realise they are a necessary part of wear and tear as you push yourself. A good physiotherapist or doc is always handy. You also realise with age recovery from injuries tend to slow down so do be patient with yourself
Vary your Routines:
Sometimes a nice swim or a game of football could compliment your gym or running routine. I was recently chided by my Coach for doing exercises randomly when not doing routine sessions with him. Working out complimentary muscle groups is important and of course the workout high ensures your endorphin quotient remains up all day!
Eating Right:
Increasing protein intake is something I have consciously started indulging in. I actually started having fish (something I have never done in my life) recently to up my intake of proteins besides milk and eggs which were my staple. Oh I didn’t mean to suggest one has to do this, but when you are indulging in exercises, muscle wear and tear can be mitigated. Plus, a good diet keeps you perky and not feeling sluggish!
