This is me…

When I am trying to crank through a workout yet have fly away hairs that have fallen out of my ponytail or are too short to stay in place attacking my eyes, ears, nose or mouth. I mean, I’m not the only one right?! Or even worse, they stick to my sweaty face. Yuck!

There are many items out on the market to help manage these pesky bits of hair while you workout. I’ll share with you a few options and tell you where I settled.

The hat. Timeless. Comes in various sizes, colors and weights. Doubles the work in shielding your eyes and face from the sun. For me, it was not a good solution as I didn’t like the sweat buildup on my forehead. I also felt too weighed down around my head as I wear sunglasses and earphones that hang over my ears, so the added hat was too much.

Large headbands. These headbands are over an inch wide and serve the purpose of keeping those fly away hairs from your face and further back on your head. Lululemon even has one that is called the Fly Away Tamer Headband. I told you, it’s a real problem for women, ha! These larger style headbands just didn’t do it for me. I expected to get used to the feel on my head and not notice it after a while. But unfortunately it squeezed my head too tightly and just never became comfortable.

Clips and pins. I have some pretty unruly fly away hairs near my ears that can be tamed with pins. But not once I get working out hard. They just don’t stay put!

Finally, the winner for me - the mini headband! Like the larger, wider headband, it does a good job of keeping the hairs away from my face. But it is not so large and tight that I notice it after a few seconds of putting it on. As there is a grippy strip on the inside of the band, it stays put and has never slipped off my head. It’s only downfall would probably be the mane-like look it gives me after running, especially in wind. The fly away hairs are not in my face, but that doesn’t stop them from trying so instead they stick straight up around the ring of the head band. Roar!

I have purchased both the Under Armour and Nike versions of these mini headbands and have been completely satisfied with both.

If you have suffered from the annoyance of fly away hairs when working out, what solution have you found to manage it? Would love to hear!
