Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills.

There have been experiences in life where I witnessed an emergency situation. But the sad thing is that I couldn't work there as a first responder because I didn't have any knowledge about it. I still feel that if I could have done the first responder's job properly in that situation, maybe his situation would have been a lot better. However, he was later hospitalized and cured with proper treatment. One day I saw two strangers, one of whom was bleeding. I was initially scared to see him as he was bleeding externally and he managed to pull himself together as he was conscious. Then a person has helped quickly. The man covered the wound with a clean cloth. and rushed him to the nearest hospital in a local vehicle as soon as possible. Although the man was unharmed, he might have done something worse if there hadn't been someone there to help him. That's why sometimes I feel regret but after doing this course I think I can handle it very efficiently as a first responder myself. For this I am very eager to do the course and of course thank the post teachers from the bottom of my heart.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario?

If I ever witness an accident while on the road, I must do something as a first responder. Below are the roleplays that I can do in such a situation as mentioned above:

  • The first thing we should do in any accident is to ensure our own safety. If I witness such an accident, I will firstly assess the accident scene so that I do not injure myself if I reach out for help. I will first observe the accident scene. So this is a road accident so I will check the traffic on that road first. If there is no ongoing traffic, it is considered safe to go to the scene. Also since there is a motorcycle and car accident there is a high possibility that the motorcycle or car has broken glass. Broken glass can cut feet. I will also observe whether the vehicle is leaking fuel. "Keep this in mind that you are always going to prioritize your own safety first – do not put yourself at risk." - By course teacher.
    If the surrounding environment is in my favor, I will quickly go to the person injured in the accident.

  • Since this is an emergency, I will call the emergency helpline first. I am a citizen of Bangladesh and if I call 999 for any adverse situation or emergency in Bangladesh, help is sent there immediately. I will call there and inform them of the location for further assistance. And if I see any person around me I will also call him to help us.

  • Then I will try to understand the injured person's response. I will go to him and ask if he can hear me. If he responds, I tell him to be quiet. Because if you can respond after such an accident, it is a positive sign. Although as stated above he is unconscious I will ask him this. I will also put him in recovery position. It is very important for unconcious person.

  • I will check if that person is breathing normally or not . I will closely monitor chest rise and fall, breath sounds to check if breathing is normal. If they are breathing normally, that is also a positive sign. If he is breathing abnormally, I will do CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), I have little knowledge about it but I hope I will get a clear idea about this in the next class.

  • Since the above mentioned motorcyclist has visible bleeding, I would apply pressure to the wound. For this I will use a clean cotton cloth. His leg was bleeding so I would not move it unless necessary as movement would increase the rate of bleeding.

  • Finally I would try to keep him calm without making any movement and repeatedly check the above responses until emergency help reaches me/us.

Draw or Create an engaging illustration/flowchart of DRABC protocol (Try to be creative and don't forget to add your username on the illustration) (2.5 marks)

The standard first response protocol, used worldwide is DRABC. Which stands D=Danger,
R=Response,
A=Airway,
B=Breathing,
C=Circulation.
Bellow I am Sharing a illustration of DRABC protocol:

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1Shared a personal experience and connected it to the importance of first aid skills and your will to help like this yourself if you were a first responder. When there is a will, there is a way. Good luck with your goalsYou could have explained the scene better, like the location, e.g., college, office, or road traffic accident where managing first aid can be more challenging due to crowds. Also, you could specify if the victim was a boy or an adult, and describe the bleeding site and amount. Could have provided more detail on how the scene was actually handled rather than just explaining a bleeding and applying bandage. Could include more specifics on how they would handle a similar situation if it happened again.[Grade: 1.7]
Question 2Demonstrated a clear understanding of safety precautions and first response actions in a road accident scenario. Explained everything in steps, which made it easy to understand.Although you explained everything in steps, there are areas for improvement in each part. For example, explain what you'll do if the scene is not safe. Remember, NEVER CALL EMERGENCY YOURSELF; ASK SOMEONE ELSE TO DO IT, as directed in the lesson. You didn’t check the airway as explained in the lesson: "Check for any visible obstructions in the mouth or throat." Also, instead of telling him to "be quiet," which could sound disrespectful, instruct him to calm down gently.[Grade: 1.0]
Question 3Created an illustration of the DRABC protocol, adhering to the assignment instructions. Very clean and understandable.The illustration could use more engaging visuals or personalized elements and detailed explanations of each protocol step. This part had the highest points, so creativity and a standout presentation would be ideal.[Grade: 2.0]
Question 4Listed emergency contact numbers for Bangladesh, fulfilling the requirement.Could include more specific services, like the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, roadside assistance, and poison control, which are more relevant than air ambulance. Overall, good work.[Grade: 1.5]
Question 5Scored excellently on the quiz.I started checking your task when you sent the link of your post in the lesson. However, the quiz was incomplete at that time but was completed a few hours later. In the future, double-check to avoid such issues.[Grade: 2.0]

General Feedback: The student demonstrated a good foundational understanding of the importance of first aid and emergency response. Including more detailed, structured actions, especially following correct procedures in each step, would improve future task performance in real-life scenarios. Overall, great work. I wish you success.

Thank you.

This is so educative. It's always good to have knowledge, just incase of emergency like this. I've had few encounters that requires additional assistance to save someone's life. I'm glad I was able to save that person that day.

I will like to learn how to do CPR. Sadly early part of this year, we lost a very talented movie actor, due to the fact that , the people he was staying with in a boat didn't know how to do that, they didn't even know they were supposed to do that immediately they rescue him in a river.

He stays some hours before he passed on.

If first aid like this are being thought in schools, some casualties wouldn't end up losing lives.

Thanks my friend. I am also eagerly awaiting to learn CPR. Its really asd that one , whoever he is die because of this. I agree with you first aid treatment should include in schools. Stay good friend

You are welcome friend.

So many people are faced with this your problem, they are scared of a mere seeing blood, but I'm grateful as you now learn the basics first aid support, you won't be scared of blood again right.

Wishing you success 👍

Thank you and now I will be focused on help someone. so I have to be brave and handle such situation smartly.

Oh yeah 👍
