It's the law of equivalent exchange. You have to sacrifice something of equal value to gain something.

It seems to be the dominant way that people live, even the dominant force of Nature (channeling my inner Darwin), but I question that it is the ONLY way to live.
As Darwin said 'Survival of the fittest.'
