Abike had delayed going to the stream, hoping to be there in the evening when the sun would have gone down, but now she had no choice but to go out. She went out int the sun because she could not bear the company of Omolara, her husband's second wife who was giving her a whole lot of trouble.
Abike was the first wife of Tunji, she had been married to him for over four years without a child. When her husband could not bear it any longer, he decided to bring in a second wife.
From the day the second wife came into the house, Abike knew she had lost her husband's attention and things would no longer be the same. She had no bad intentions against the young and beautiful Omolara.
Abike took Omolara as her younger sister and she welcomed her with open arms. Throughout the day of the new wife's arrival, Abike was busy with one house chores or the other, she prepared a very tasty meal for the new wife and the other guest.
It was painfulfor Abike that she had to share her husband with another woman. Yet, it didn't stop her from being the good and loving woman she had always been and that was one thing her husband admired.
