Auckland Marathon Sunday Racing
I just finished a 5.244km run that lasted about 0hh:22mm:13ss !
A great picture after the race. Myself on the right running the 5km, Kirsty Pinder pacing for the half marathon, and Raewyn Barker running the full marathon.
I think I was expecting a lot from my body today and it didn't really hold up. Today was my first race after completing my first Ultramarathon two weeks ago. I knew I was going to struggle but still thought I would have it in me to run a quick pace. Last year I was on supporter duty for this weekend but was wanting to still be a part of the action this year, but happy to be running the shortest race for the day.
My girlfriend was pacing the 2:10 half marathon finishers and was grateful to be able see her finish before I needed to head to the start of the 5km run. I have been adding in some tempo runs at my hopeful race pace and I've been really impressed with my progress back to where I was a couple of years ago.
Unfortunately today was not going to be my day. My legs still had not recovered from the ultra and I was able to run hard for the first kilometer and was not able to keep the pace up for much longer than that. I shouldn't be disappointed at all with my run as I did get 12th over all and took out my age group, but I am sure a lot of the top runners were running the longer distances today. I didn't have any running races planned for the next couple of months but will look at getting some 5km races done to see if I can get back to where I would like to be.

Thanks for the kind words.
Nice work, brotha! I hear ya about dealing with recovery times. Still -- solid pace! 12th overall is great, and taking the age-group is a nice feather in your cap too, considering you don't appear to be that old!
Keep it up!
No matter how high your peak is: what matters is to commit yourself to reach it?

not bad after a long day out in Taupo. I'd have been signed up for the 21km of eating pizza and drinking beer race, while sitting on the couch, myself ;-)
I think that race was already sold out
