The curation and engagement leagues - Sponsored by @carlgnash and @paulag!
Hi all!
Welcome to this weeks curation and engagement leagues, kindly sponsored by @carlgnash and @paulag. Thank you!
This week I have not one but 2 new logos, and a tagline!
Thanks to the contest organisers @davemccoy and @beeyou, and the winners @roldamn, @ossyjay, and @xtrim!
To enter the leagues until you say otherwise, drop a comment below.
On your marks, get set, curate!
Introduction
My general views on maximizing curation rewards (to score highly in League 1) are:
Voting in the first minute will earn you a curation reward of almost 0.000
Voting between 1 and 29 minutes will earn an increasing % of the curation rewards split, this value peaking at 30 minutes and remaining the same from this point onwards
The goal is to get in prior to the big hitters, but not too early!
It is commonly suggested that 15-25 minutes is the 'best' time to vote (especially on known 'power author' posts because they are likely to have more auto-votes coming in at these times - and you want to be ahead of these votes)
A vote of equal weight and equal Steem Power at 30 minutes will give more reward than a vote at, for example 1 hour - first come first served, but don't arrive to early :)
Voting on good dtube content and utopian-io approved contributions (prior to the vote by @dtube / @utopian-io ) can earn some very good curation rewards
Voting on @ocd posts is likely to gain good curation rewards as founder @acidyo, and @anomadsoul support these posts after giving time for other accounts to vote - you will be in front of a couple of large votes here!
As you can see, a combination of many variables such as Steem Power, voting strength, voting weight, time of vote, (and more) all play a part in the amount of rewards received.
My general opinion on maximizing engagement (to score highly in League 2) is:
Spread your vote and write lots of engaging comments!
Use your vote on comments to make your vote seen
The data for league 1
The raw data has been collected from SteemSQL - @arcange's MS SQL Server copy of the Steem Blockchain.
The formula used for 'quality of financial curation skill' is:
Curation Rewards DIVIDED BY Steem Power MULTIPLIED BY 1000
This will return the amount of Curation rewards gained per 1000 Steem Power held
The rules (which will cause auto-filtering of your account if not met so just enter anyway and see what happens!) to appear in this league:
Must have voted at least once on a piece of content in the past 7 days
Must not have leased or delegated Steem Power in the last 14 days
Must not have Started a Power Down (withdrawal of Steem Power) in the last 15 days
The 2nd and 3rd points above are required to reduce distortion of the figures.
And, as curation rewards for the past week are actually taken from votes made up to 14 days ago, we need a 15 day window as mentioned above.
Don't let this put you off entering though - you will be automatically be excluded/appear depending on the criteria above.
League 1 - Curating to maximize returns
See the rules above if you are missing from this table
The end column is what I think is a genuine indicator of how well you are financially working the curation game with the tools, including vested Steem Power, that you have at your disposal.
This weeks' winners!
Congratulations to @crypto-econom1st again on what looks to be a record score!
And the 4 runners up from last week @mys, @freyman, @williamsyee, and @patay69 because the first 5 in the league is unchanged from last week. Competitive stuff!
Prizes for all of the above!
League 2 - Engagement and Excellence - Write on!
This the newer league which is not based around rewards and relates to engagement.
Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - delegation dealings or not.
I've used some metrics (which is the fancy way of saying that made up some numbers) relating to:
- Posts (P)
- Comments - number of (C)
- Comments - outside of your own blogs (C E)
- Comments - length in characters (C L)
- Witness votes (W)
- Upvotes to others (V)
- Upvotes to different authors (U V)
- Self-votes - a minus score for this one sorry! (S V)
Firstly, if you are placed in the table above then you are doing great and are among the top 20%!
Congratulations to @lynncoyle1 who tops the league of engagement and excellence this week! Fully deserved!
Well done also to last weeks winner, @gillianpearce who was very close in 2nd. The top 2 a long way ahead this week!
Excellent engagement also from @themanwithnoname, @simplymike, @davemccoy, @bashadow, @beeyou, @aussieninja, @goldendawne (Am i writing last weeks top 10 in a different order here?!, @fullcoverbetting (new entry!), and @amariespeaks who are all getting a prize this week :)
Do you want to be a part of the leagues? Let me know below!
(Calculations may vary from week to week but always with a goal to find top community engagers.)
Prizes sent!
Curation League 1
Curation League 2
And delegations to:
50 SP - @fullcoverbetting
50 SP added to existing - @beeyou
50 SP added to existing - @lynncoyle1
Finally
A few points:
If you have spotted any glaring errors in my post, please let me know so I can fix them
If you would like to be added or removed from my personal curation league, let me know
If you have any other comments or suggestions, please enter them into the box below
Thanks for these weekly curation promoting posts Asher, they really help !
I finally tried out Vessel and delegated some SP as a reward on my own monthly curation post. I also finally (after ~8 months) took the time to really understand all the steem keys, changed them all and put my master password offline. The nerves about dealing with the keys and fear to do something wrong is gone now :-)
Next up on my list is to have a deeper look into witness voting.
Excellent stuff!
I agree organising keys are stressful but once you are done then I think you can relax - an offline master key is the best option for sure.
Great stuff too re. The delegation reward, I must check out your post above soon, and encourage others to do the same.
Thanks for the support here, I do think we have a good thing going on - sponsors, promoters, and cheerleaders have certainly helped. Cheers!
You have collected your daily Power Up! This post received an upvote worth of 0.2$.

I really like how the logo is incorporated into your bar chart. I swear it had been there from the start! That’s how awesome it looks. Your guest judge sure has an eye for artistic talent. ;) The one by ossyjay is new to me. I really like it. He is one talented lad.
Thank you so much for the winning prizes. It really was a surprise to see the Steem prize along with the added 50 SP delegation. You are simply awesome.
There is a reason you are my favorite SOG member. Not because I am a recipient of the delegation, but because you have the Steemit community at heart. Many on here have turned a blind eye to the importance of Curation and ‘people’ engagement. They’ve taken the path of least resistance by capitalizing with other means of activities. I’m not experienced enough to say if that is right/wrong but I don’t see how new members/communities can flourish when all support are given for capitalistic gain.
You, however, have continued to support steemians that are engaging in the communities. The value you place on ‘human interactions’ and community support is one I truly admire. So thank you for being so awesome!
Hi @beeyou
Thank you, my artistic talents are minimal but the designer picked colours that worked well I think :D
It really is my pleasure to gift a little more SP to you, I know how much you (and others associated) have been doing for the new recruits in the past few months, and I wish to see you reach 500 SP as soon as possible!
I don't know what to say here! This is my favourite comment in recent times, i'm very humbled - too kind!
Thank you for making my day :)
You've also made my day! Thanks for placing value on my comment. :)
We shouldn't be far along from 500 SP. I invested in Steem when I started the beeyou account so our upvote worth could be $0.01. I took advantage of the recent dip and invested in more steem yesterday.
Combined with the delegated SP from yourself and @davemccoy, the beeyou team should have a voting slider soon! We are now worth $0.04 cents at max VP. Woohoo!
Shhh, don't tell anyone but I think you've just crossed the 500 SP line :D
OMG! YOU are incredibly sweet. I see the voting slider pop up now! THANK YOU! (I can't possibly be quiet)!
Another example of your giving and supportive nature. Why bother reading replies? You could've skimmed over all our comments and paid us little people no mind.
Instead, you spend time reading our comments, showing your support by visiting our blogs, AND take the time to see that Team BeeYOU needed a nudging to get to (and cross) that desired 500 SP line. Your 100 SP delegation was generous enough, now you just added another 50 SP. Woohoo!
I continue to be amazed at the kindness of the individuals I've met on here. I know our upvotes are to go for 'quality posts' but I am proud to share my upvotes with the wonderful individuals I've met on here.
Thank you Asher, for being so kind, and giving our team the 150 SP delegation in total.
:D
Have you been using it today? Going a bit mad with it?!
500 SP is a good milestone, I hope you guys can make it there soon with your vested SP. Actually, I know you will :D
Yes, yes and yes! The slider is pretty awesome. So sleek in design magically popping up the way it does. :)
We will shoot for that vested 500 SP milestone. Will build the VP back up and be responsible. Perhaps we can make it back onto league 1 one of these days...
Thanks again Asher. You truly are the best!
Mission accomplished!
Great to see that I most likely at the record for league 1.
And I have very good news for all of you.
First one is as of now I will give all of you a chance to win. Because as of last week I stopped searching for curation rewards.
Second thing is that I will write a few more posts to reveal my secrets.
Today I tried to analyze the data a bit more thoroughly. I saw some remarkable things. Let me point out 1.
The number of comments from @blazing is really high:721. That's about 100+ per day 😳
Average length might explain it a bit, only 75 characters. But it's just to much to only write "great post". I wonder what the strategy is from this Steemonian?
Thanks again for this awesome contest!
Good stuff :)
Yes I think that is the record. You are sticking to the 70 votes a week which is a good start.
No votes to comments in your posts will help reward, but probably not bring followers..
The low SP is a big advantage. We'll see what happens when you reach 500 :)
@blazing is the comment queen/king? usually a short positive sentence, the master of this!
As of last week I stopped curation hunting. Still I never upvote comments below my own posts. As I think my upvote will be lost then with $0.00 value. So instead I upvote posts from everyone that leaves a comment.
@abh12345 thank you for your approval to include me on the league list. I am so happy and at the same time I am anxious to learn more so that I could climb up the list fast
@Jan23com has patiently educated me on the voting power and frequency to maximized my Voting Power.
I am also like to experience how the low SP has the big advantage.
Cheers
Hey @crypto-econom1st! Congratulations!! I focus on commenting and getting on @abh12345's second list, but haven't paid as much attention to actually making a little something from my efforts haha Thanks for the heads-up up re: your 'good news'; I look forward to reading and getting some tips from the master :)
I'll sign up to read your strategies, thank you.
Congrats man!
Curious about your curation secrets ;-)
I need some new strategies :-)
Let me know when you post your article ;-)
Plastic hug
Steemitri The Mannequin
I already post a little tip of the curtain (don't know how to say that in proper English). And I know why you did not see that 😀
To bad you did never follow me and only @mys, GRRR 🤨
No just kidding.
Hahaha... I will be your shadow too ;-)
In that case let me tell you that you get the highest curation rewards when I upvote my own shit and you upvote right behind me 😜
Seriously, you did notice that I stopped hunting for curation rewards?
So about 90% of my upvotes won't earn any curation at this moment.
This week I'm trying a total new strategy... so let's what happens ;-)
Sorry man I won't follow you like a shadow, haha... but I will check how you do :-)
Btw... where are you from? cause I'm collecting postcards ;-)
Have a nice day!
Steemitri The Mannequin
Hi, lynncoyle1 I heard and see a write-up about focusing on commenting. I started to do so but I do not want to miss the daily posting though.
I need extra earning to boost my SBD so that I can power up for higher SP ( ha..ha... pls correct me if I said wrongly , I am still learning these jargon )
Cheers
Thanks Asher!
I'm still working on my curation... for the first time I'm switching to auto-upvotes... so I'm going to do some manual and some auto... let's see the results in a week ;-)
... and I have to be honest... sometimes I follow @mys's upvotes... like a shadow, haha... ;-) (sorry man, but you are crazy-good!)
Sounds good to me :)
Has @mys got a trail? I've noticed some of his on Utopian-io, really nice picks!
I checked on SteemAuto, but no trail there...
Yeah... he's great ;-)
You are welcome ;)
@abh12345 I noticed too there are more and more 'bots?' who follow my utopian votes.
A few more bots and a mannequin it seems :D
Hi @mys I don't know if they are following you like I do sometimes. I do it manually.
I think after Utopian stopped all the translation-contributions (and there were a lot) user started to upvote other utopian categories (the ones trying to earn from curation)... and I noticed an increasement of upvotes.
Utopian just released an announcement about a new upvote bot... it should perform better and faster.
Have a great day
Steemitri The Mannequin
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! @themanwithnoname, @simplymike, @davemccoy, @bashadow, @beeyou, @aussieninja, @amariespeaks AND @abh12345 (yeah, you need to be mentioned of course- without you... yeah, don't even want to think about it!)
WELCOME to the fold @fullcoverbetting
SO wonderful! Every Sunday morning before I start my Qurator newsletter I scroll through ginabot looking for this post! and it always brings a smile to my face!!!
Sending @abh1245 blessings from far away for this honor!
Same here, great to see how this engages people to steemit. We cannot thank @abh12345 and his/her sponsors enough!
:D
No women would be so stupid as to pick this username! haha
Okay, point taken. But nowadays nothing surprised me anymore. From the cryptomarket to usernames!
thank you @goldendawne 😀 and congratulations to you too my dear! 👏👏👏💜
Aww thank you Dawne!
I'm always most pleased to see you in the list, I know then that much encouragement has been sprayed around the previous week with your comments :)
And it has been a tough few weeks, so I think everyone here is doing awesome and deserves a lot of credit.
Thank you!
Thank you @goldendawne. Congratulations for being up there yourself. I don’t know you find time to engage plus continue to write your own posts and the newsletter ones for Qurator. Very commendable.
Hey Asher, this is awesome what you did with the logos! I love the way your blended the original and added @ossyjay's too! Very nice and very professional!
I'm grateful for the prize you awarded and appreciate it very much. I will also donate that to @friendsofgondor to help the #stewardsofgondor out. I feel like I'm being outdone by the master commentors though and not sure I will can ever catch them again. Especially looking at that top spot, I'm so happy to see @lynncoyle1 make the final leap. She has gone from #5 to #3 to #1 in the last 3 weeks, and my thinking is the farmgirl in Mexico won't give back that crown very easily! ;)
Congratulations to you Lynn, you really did a fantastic job. I had a hunch as I have seen you everywhere. I also think you are doing a wonderful job of connecting people together, and I think your recent new entry into the groups of @helpie and @asapers will pull together even more people. That is the real prize you win, but I'm happy to see you get the crown here and be the queen :)
Congratulations on so many other familiar names too, like @gillianpearce and @themanwithnoname and @simplymike (my pick to challenge Lynn this week).... Even congrats to you too Asher, you are practicing what you preach. Great job!
There's so many other wonderful people on the list that I know that its nice to see too. I would like to give a shout out to @gracefavour and @sweetcha too... Even though you aren't at the top of the list, its still awesome what you have accomplished. This league has roughly 250 people in it and to be even on the list is a feat. So great job everyone!
Again love to see the new logo(s) and you never said who your "mystery" judge was, but whoever it was did a great job of working with you as I really like the fresh look!
Have a wonderful day and thanks again for hosting the cool league on steemit... It is the place to be! Write on! ;)
Hi Dave
Thanks for the artistic compliments, I sure don't get many of those! We can thank the creator for his choice of colours there I think!
Lynn has gone from strength to strength and certainly deserves top spot this week - Gillian and herself pulled way clear and could be tough to pass.
I like that we are rotating top spot and I think the league is doing as planned and really encouraging those involved to pit their words out there and support others.
A big thank you to yourself too for being a great example and bring so many new faces to the leagues in the past couple of months - we could well be at 300 next time around!
I've moved a little delegated SP to @friendsofgondor as a small thank you for the above, and just because it's another excellent initiative. Cheers!
I agree about the rotating leaders, that is kinda cool to see the horse race each week. :)
I saw where you delegated to @friendsofgondor and I'm very appreciative of that too... That is very gracious and it is also very helpful as you set an example for others to follow! (I haven't looked at how much SP you have lately, but you are an amazing person to give so much each week.. Could #ashersarmy be far behind?)... ;)
and its good to hear we are getting close to 300.. if you tell me exactly where you are, then I will find a way to get us a little closer to that mark :)
Thank you so much Dave! I must admit it feels good to be queen haha
What a lovely thing to say! I think with their similar purpose, it's great if we can all connect and work together in our support to others. That way everyone is looking out for anyone that's missed by everyone else... wow, I just re-read that; a bit of a mouthful, but you get what I'm saying ;)
Congratulations to you as well! I know you do so much 'commenting' behind the scenes in Discord, so it's really difficult to keep it up here as well. I for one notice your efforts shining through in so many other places:)
And @abh12345, I noticed the logos and totally forget to tell you that...I'm with Dave on that one. Nice job!
I'm so happy to be able to understand that. :P
I agree with you 100% too ;)
Long live the Queen!!!
hahaha I thought you might!!
...hmmmm, the "Queen"...I'm liking the sound of that :)
Thank you!
Not my strong point but the colour scheme made it not as difficult as I had thought! 😁
or do you mean "not your cup of tea"? :)
haha
I'll have to run a search on how many times that appears on the blockchain - I might be leading the tally!
Saying that, I could get in trouble for examining every comment for a piece of text and so perhaps not!
Afternoon tea me dear :)
hahaha perfect!! We'll simply guess that's it's a lot, even if you just count the two of us ;)
Thanks, @davemccoy. It was a good fight. There have been a number of people who have really upped their game. If you look at my numbers over the last few weeks, I've been in the 26,000 point range most of the time. I don't tend to vary. I think I slacked a bit this week, so I was pleasantly surprised to get back to 3rd. You can do it. If I can hang up there, you can make it back. I'm betting on you! :)
Yes I give you a lot of credit blondie, you are consistent... I think that is the Arch Stanton in you! He is steady and tough and keeps your feet on the ground and the competitors a little nervous! ;)
And thanks for the encouragement... I like that, everyone needs a pick me up sometimes :)
Thanks Dave 😍 I was so excited seeing my name on the list this week, will keep on improving.
Thanks at @davemccoy. Struggling a bit today, which I've commented about eslewhere, so I'll leave it at that! 💙 💙 💙
I think I've married with 5th place next week I'll try to do better
5th is not a bad place to hold on to at all 😁
Haha this sounds like a lot of fun! Please can you add me to your list? I heard about you from @paulag :) Thanks! (I love a bit of healthy competition!)
Great, glad to have you on board :D Added!
I noticed those in the top ten have almost 0 self- votes on themselves and is a huge factor!
I still haven't gotten enough support that I can't self vote haha. I'll get there eventually.
I am happy to be breaking the 500 votes a week though but still a long way from the 500 unique votes that I need to have.
The ABC's of engagement lords it over again and with @lynncoyle1 getting the top spot and @themanwithnoname @simplymike @bashadow @beeyou and @amariespeaks all well represented.
The main man himself @davemccoy and the engagement goddess @goldendawne is well within the top engagers of the community!
This is the league were everyone comes out a winners especially the whole Steemit Community.
Thank you Asher for this league that we all look forward to reading about. Definitely a highlight of my week.
P.S.
I will strive to get back at the top 10!!
thank you for the mention @maverickinvictus ! Great job this week to you too! 😊
I will strive to get back haha
I wouldn't say huge, but it is in there!
What is a 100% self-vote worth to you? I would suggest that a well planted comment on a post would make a few of those selfies back?
Everyone is free to choose though! :D
Good luck on returning to the tricky top 10!
I'll try it for this week and get my comments and unique votes up as well! It has been harder and harder to get back but its a great competition for everyone :)
Glad to hear you are going to give it a go - see if you can hunt out a few power users (who actually curate their comments) and land a nice vote there.
I'm interested to know how you fare, good luck!
Thank you so much @maverickinvictus! And same to you...you are still up there on the list!
In the beginning of my time on steemit, I upvoted my posts and used upvoting bots occasionally, but then it felt like I was wrapping up a birthday present to give to myself. Absolutely no offence meant to anyone who uses either, I'm just saying if wasn't right for me. They are both legitimate tools to use though.
See you next week in the top 10 ;)
...how's that for encouragement?!
Oh it is on!! I will do my best to get back to the top ten then hahaha
hahaha Let the games begin!!
Thank you for your continuous effort on these reports and congratulations for being in top 10 in-spite of your efforts on other works like reports on top 20 Steemians... work, @abh12345.
Congratulations to @lynncoyle1, @gillianpearce, @themanwithnoname, @simplymike and @abh12345 who have somehow pushed our own favorite guy @davemccoy to 6th place. I am sure Dave might be busy with something and will climb back.
Congratulations to other Steemians who are mentioned in the list and it's a commendable job from all of you to be in top 20 with the growing competition.
Although I am less active this week and dropped out of top 40 in league 2, happy to see myself climbing in league 1.
Thanks again and good day to all :)
Thank you @coolguy123 and congratulations on climbing up League 1. That's far harder I believe. At least it would be for me.
At least League 2 comes to you a bit i.e. you just respond when someone comments or when you see a post you like. You don't have to worry about timing.
It's hard enough replying to comments coming in in the evening let alone trying to time an upvote. A lot of the good ones are probably when I@m in bed so I don't know how people handle the tome zone differences.
Anyway. I hope you can get back into the Top 10 in League 2 soon, if that's what you desire.
Have a wonder full week! 😊
Thank you and I think yes, it's more to do with the SP we have and the timing of voting including right % of voting as well.
Time zone differences will always be a problem but the blogs posting will be happening round the clock, so, it's just like we need to be picky in voting the contents and try to find some people who get those bigger votes and need to vote just before those bigger votes comes in.
I think as @abh12345 has said many times, if we get to feature in the top 20, it's a great achievement, of-course if we finish it top 10, there is that additional incentive of atleast 1 SBD reward as of now, but it's more of competing that helps me as a Steemian and also the satisfaction of rewarding some good content.
Thanks for the wishes and you too have a great week :)
Thanks, @coolguy123! Sometimes you have an off week, but you can come back stronger this week. Yes, congrats on climbing in League 1! I'm not really sure the secret to it, so you're a wizard in my book. :)
I think the league 1 is based on the amount of SP generated from the voting we do. So, it's more to do with whom to vote.
League 2 is more of engagement although the voting also counts I think, may be @abh12345 can explain it more as I think the criterion used to change week on week when I started participating in these leagues.
Nah, I think you nailed it. League 1 is based on how effective you are at using the SP you have to get curation rewards. That means timing your votes, considering when to use full value votes, and which people to vote for.
League 2 is all about interaction. It's about how many people you talk to, where you talk to them, how much you reward them for their content... all about interaction. That's more my thing as I like talking with people. :)
That's right, as you said, timing of the voting is more important.
We can see that @crypto-econom1st has just 15 SP, but has used that wisely to earn more rewards and is the topper of league 1.
Thanks for the mention @coolguy123, I seem to be holding my place in the top 10 of league two - and as usual, not to be found in league 1 :D
Glad to see your comments as always and have a good week!
I think you will never be featured in league 1 because of your continuous outgoing SP delegations as part of winners of curation leagues.
But, more than that, because of your efforts, many people are being rewarded and more than that, many are actively participating to improve their curation skills and get noticed by others.
Thanks for the wishes and wish you a more successful week ahead.
Thanks so much @coolguy123, I appreciate that!! I think Dave has been so busy helping people on Discord...there should be a separate league for that one too :)
Sometimes real life takes over, so your drop in league 2 is understandable. Congratulations on moving up in league 1 though! That's where I need to focus on too, but I enjoy just talking with people so much that I don't seem to even think about it until Sundays :)
Oh, thank you @lynncoyle1.
Yeah, it feels nice to be featured in league 1.
Balancing the voting and getting more interactions is a bit difficult job, although not impossible. Hopefully I will feature one day in both the leagues ;)
Have a great day my friend :)
I'm sure you will be in both leagues before you know it; I beginning to try and focus on league #1 myself...I hope haha
Hope you're having an awesome day as well!!
Well, I hope so. Time is the constraint to concentrate both on comments and then curation. With schools off from this week, I am hoping I will get some additional time to spend on Steemit, so that, I can atleast try to figure in top 10 in both.
What is it that you do...away from steemit I mean?
I work as a freelance software engineer, mainly working on report generation tools from SAP.
I keep writing blogs on the technologies I work and I also work on expertsexchange.com as a solution provider to the questions related to the technologies I have worked on.
That's about me. How about you?
When you said,
I thought you were in Education somehow, but now I'm going to guess, kids?
My story is long, but here's the Reader's Digest condensed version:) I taught high school for years (loved it!), was married for 24, divorced, two kids, met the love of my life(@briancourteau), took a leave from school, bought a restaurant (also loved it!), then he (my love) got cancer, did all the traditional and non-traditional treatments, neither worked, we sold everything and moved to Mexico, which is where I am at the moment. My boys are young adults in their 20's and still live in Vancouver, BC where we all used to be. So...we are currently just living and enjoying our days, however long they may last. It is what it is; of course we are heart-broken, but also feel very fortunate for the the time we do have together. Life works in very mysterious ways, and I am not about to try and sort it all out! We have both written about it all here, which has been very therapeutic, and we have encountered amazing support as well. Who knew...steemit would be my support system here in Mexico??!!
Well there it is...you asked :)
